Foo Fighters - All my Life:

    sounds like

Violent Femmes - Add it Up

The verses for both songs sound similar to me.

If your gonna include songs with samples then there are thousands of songs...including the majority of pop and hip hop - but the ones that annoyed me the most were always that Maria Carey song that sampled Tom Tom Club and that Hippychick song that sampled The Smiths

I agree with you, this is not that uncommon. The reason that these two might stand out is that, IF I recall correctly, Queen went after Vanilla and the two sides settled out of court. In reality, there is nothing new under the sun! Everyone takes bits and pieces from someone else and then try's to present it as an original.

and rightly so. I believe it set a precedent for people having to pay to sample music. Sampling a word or sound is one thing, sampling the entire beat or several bars is annoyingly uncreative.

First time that I heard 'Counting Stars' by One Republic I thought it sounded a lot like 'Bad Touch' by Bloodhound Gang.

The Song That Remains The Same sounds an awful lot like the The Songs That Sound The Same.

The chord progression for these two isn't exactly I-IV-V, so this one has always stood out to me.

I mean, even the words. Come on, Huey, at least give Jeff Lynne co-writing credit!

    ELO (1976):
"I was searchin' (SEARCHIN') on a one-way street,
I was hopin' (HOPIN') for a chance to meet.
I was waitin' for the operator on the line "

    Huey Lewis (1982):
    "I was walking
    Down a one-way street
    Just a-looking
    For someone to meet
    One woman
Who was looking for a man

    Now I'm hoping (HOPIN')
That the feeling is right "

For the rest of mine, it's not really plagiarism like above, but there are similar chord patterns or aspects- and most of the latter were fans of the former (I always include the song that came out first first in these groupings), so it makes sense (e.g. The Eagles toured with Jethro Tull in the early 70s).
