Soon and very soon, the Houston Rockets will name a new head coach and leader for a new era in Houston basketball. Whoever the coach may be, he will probably be a high-profile coach with a big and recognized name within the NBA. Most likely, the coach who comes in will bring with him his own staff but there is always space to bring in someone who is famliar with or has roots with HOUSTON like RUDY T. With this in mind I feel either MARIO ELIE or KENNY SMITH could possibly become a good fit as an assistant to whoever becomes the new coach.

Mario Elie- I would love to see "SUPER" Mario rejoin this Houston team as an assistant. I feel that he would bring the much needed "punch" to this team. Like what others say, he would also add some "fighters" mentality and attitude to this club. i could see him seasoned into a very good assistant and he would become another hometown hero to take over this ballclub.

Kenny Smith- He is becoming a good analyst and is starting to look like another Quinn Buckner. Smith could provide another helpful perspective to this team. He is loud and a proven leader. If not Elie, Kenny Smith, another Houston hero would be my next choice for assistant.

    Would you guys favor this?

I am for Smith, Ellie and Jabbar as our Assistants.Avery Johnson as the Coach or even Scott Stiles? Last resort JVG., no Larry Brown, Paul Silas or John Lucas.

I think elie would make a great asst coach, but he and his wife just had twins or triplets. I dont think traveling around the USA and spending many hours coaching is in his immediate plans.

Mario said he's interested in the HEAD COACHING job..........

    But anyways.

Hire Larry Brown as head coach. Let him choose his assistants.

And as an extra bonus.......give him Mario and Kenny.

    I don't know if that's a benefit or detriment.....

id rather want mario elie as an assistant coach rather than kenny smith. he's doing so well on broadcasting, why the hell he wanted to be an assistant coach?! he's the only one that can even talk back about charles harsh criticisms and shut him up.

Kenny wants to be an assistant because someday he wants to be a head coach. He is correctly banking on the fact that he won't get to be an announcer for the rest of his life and will never earn the money a head coach makes with a mic...

Having two crying twins could be an incentive for any man to hit the road for awhile. If Super Mario wasn't interested in some sort of job in the league he probably owuldn't be raising his profile as he has with hisrecent TNT appearances. He would make a great assistant. Kenny too, but I doubt he would leave the spotlight to be an assistant. Kenny does have the Dean Smith UNC pedigree and two rings, so he could have a bright future.
