So far, 6 meatballs laced with rat poison found in parks, believed to be meant for dogs to eat.

One dog (6mo old Golden Retriever) hospitalized, so far.

Symptoms include lethargy, decreased appetite, pale gums, difficulty breathing and unexplained bleeding or bruising, according to Matt Booth of Alpenglow Veterinarian Clinic in Boulder.

GUNBARREL, Colo. - More poisoned meatballs were found in a park in Gunbarrel Tuesday morning.

The raw meatballs initially found Monday night in a neighborhood park located at 5150 Buckingham Rd. contained green chunks of rat poison, according to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office. Two more were found on Tuesday, for a total of six.

Investigators believe the poisoned meatballs were left for pets to consume. The meatballs are slightly smaller than the average car key.

At least one dog, a 6-month-old Golden Retriever puppy named "Amos," has already been treated by a local veterinarian. He was kept overnight and is still fatigued.

"It's horrible," said owner Uli Bromme, "Just absolutely horrible."

Bromme said Amos ate the ball of meat before she could stop him, and she rushed him to the emergency room, where a veterinarian confirmed he had been poisoned.

"We’re all just shocked,' said Bromme. "Somebody must not like dogs being in that park. I don’t know how to explain it."

Animal control officers scoured the park Tuesday to ensure they had found all the meatballs, and they posted signs around the area warning about the threat.

"It’s just disturbing," said Brandy Perkins, a Boulder County Animal Control Officer. "Somebody has got a problem with the dogs out here, and hopefully, we can find out who it is."

Officers said two other neighbors were concerned their dogs may have eaten something at the park and took them to emergency rooms as a precaution.

If there is any chance that your pet may have consumed the poison, it should be taken to a veterinarian immediately, experts warn. It can take two to three days before an animal begins to show symptoms and by then it may be too late to treat.

what a sad thing to do. People like this need to be thrown in jail for a long time. If anybody did this to my dog, god help them.
