I've heard most other teams announcers on league pass, but I must have missed the ones that are so knowledgeable and unbiased compared to Bill and Co. I guess we need a break once in a while from ripping the team, coaches, GM and owner.
lol, I heard that as well and immediately checked TNT just to double check. …..I had false hope and returned to my crappy internet stream with disappointment.
Bill didn't really start complaining about the defense until this recent stretch, and in his defense the defense has been unacceptably bad, mainly due to effort. Giving up 119 PPG to the Nuggets2x, Lakers, Wolves, and Pelicans, all of whom are playing scrubs, that pisses him off, me too.
I've never understood the complaints that the Rockets' announcers are homers because in my experience all home team announcers blatantly favor their teams. That's part of the point of them being home announcers. It's not like Bill and co. totally bury the opposing team, which is what some homers do (Johnny Most). I do think it's kind of amusing that Bill this season seems to have more of an edge than I can remember, often sounding like a CF member. I can't really complain since in most cases I agree with what he's complaining about
Very telling that it's mostly rookies on here that are b****ing about Bill. The people that have only been watching the Rockets for a few years, and really don't give a damn about the team. Bill Worrell is a Rocket. Period. You haters should go become Jazz fans.
Bill is top notch for a home town announcer & he's a legend in Houston. If you are watching on LP and you are not a Rockets fan I can see how his excitement when the team is doing well, and the disappointment at crappy efforts when the Rockets are down can be annoying. However.... why again do we (Rox fans) care about fans in Utah, SA, or wherever not liking Bill. Screw them, I have to deal with Matt Harpring, and Sean Elliott when I watch them on LP so they can just suck it. Those guys are WAAYYY worse IMO, and have zero showmanship. Bill is a legend, and a class act. Bull and Clyde have gotten better, but still are trying too hard to live up to Calvin Murphy. I think Bull has realized he's not Calvin, and has been a little more like himself which has helped the broadcast (especially on away games) but Clyde still struggles from time to time. However now that the Rockets have two superstars, I feel like there is quality relativity to Harden & Howard on the broadcast which gives some nice insight from time to time.
I agree. It's like people don't know that they are expected to be homers since it's a Rockets broadcast. Being a homer is perfectly acceptable when doing a local broadcast. The only time an announcer is supposed to remain unbiased is for national broadcasts like ESPN, TNT, ABC, etc.
Ditto. How could any longtime Rockets fan ever want to see Worrell go? Keep him around as long as he's physically able to do the job. Nothing will ever match his chemistry with Murph, but Bull is by far the best replacement they've come up with. Just get rid of Clyde who brings literally nothing to the broadcast.
I remember back in the day listening to Gene's radio broadcast with TV muted instead of listening to Bill and Calvin. My experience lately has been that the radio and TV no longer match up as well. I don't have CSNH (was about to make switch before bankruptcy filing) so I don't know if Bill has really improved lately, but Craig and Joel are a good listen.
I tried that a few times, but the TV broadcast was on a delay of a second or two, so I'd know if the shot was going in or not based on Gene's commentary before it happened on TV. As much as I like Bill Worrell, nothing will ever top the duo of Gene Peterson and Jim Foley. Anyone who thinks Worrell is a homer obviously never heard those two. And I don't know if these stories are true, but I heard that Gene and Jim one time screamed so loud when the Rockets hit a game winner that they caused a blowout that knocked the radio broadcast off the air. And the other story was that Gene was criticizing the refs so much during a game that during a timeout, one of the refs came up to him and called him an "a-hole"(or some pejorative) that went out live on the air.
You got that right on Sean Elliot, he is the worst. Horrific homer. Makes Tommy Heinsohn look like the picture of objectivity. I was watching NBATV recently and there were some announcers who were pretty fair-handed but for the life of me I can't remember what game I was watching. I was floored. Very fair in how they called it. UGH! Wish I could remember. I can't help but like Bull, being a fellow Iowa Hawkeye, I guess; but Clyde is to broadcasting what McHale is to coaching. If I may quote Clubber Lang: "Paaaaaaaaaaain." God, I miss Calvin.
I hope Les wins his lawsuit against CSN and gets his money back, then I hope CSN will cease broadcasting Rockets games. Then I hope we ca get more entertaining broadcasts and broadcasters.
A) Bill and Bull are better than Ackerman and Joel Blank X10000000 B) I miss Gene and Jim C) Clyde is still terrible D) I think CSN's product is great. Super high quality production. Way better than FSSW. It's just a shame I can't SEE it. I want to be able to view the games, but I'd love them to keep this same product.
Clyde is the problem. He is a HOF player, no doubt about it. Other than that, he is a joke in coaching and even worse as a color guy. Get rid of him, even Adam Wexler can do a better job with Bill and Matt.
