Don't know the name of it, but the 90 mile scenic route in Big Bend that goes through Terlingua and Lajitas is good. The dirt path of Old Maverick Road (also in Big Bend) is scary in a minivan.
After living in Houston for 40 years, and sitting in traffic every day, the past 4 years driving west on 1431 after cedar park headed home every day is heaven.
Check out the motorcycle magazine called Ride Texas. They provide lists of great roads in Texas. one of my favorites... Willow City Loop near Fredericksburg. Picture San Francisco's Lombard Street in the Hill Country. Now is a really good time with all the wildflowers.
Thanks for the magazine tip. As soon as the trike gets out of the shop wife and I will be chewing up some Texas roads!
I-37 Between San Antonio and Corpus Christi. I kid, that's the most miserable stretch of highway I've seen in my life.
^^this. Hwy 118 onto Hwy 170. I drove it last year. I need to upload a couple of my videos. It's majestic. That big ass hill 13 miles past Lajitas is downright heart-stopping.
Why do people do this? We get that there are plenty of places in the world that could be considered more beautiful than Texas, but the question wasn't pertaining to those places. It's the same thing as when people ask whether they like Houston or Dallas more, and someone invariably comes in and says San Francisco.
I love riding my motorcycle in the Texas Hill Country, especially Ranch Roads 335-7. The roads around Fredericksburg are also great. Finally, the region north of Big Bend and Big Bend itslef (Santa Elena Canyon) have amazing scenery. You'll love these places regardless if you're on two wheels or four.
not a scenic drive but the bluebonnets on I-10 between Schulenberg and Seguin were quite nice last week.
