Can Dwight and Bev really mask this team's horrid defense?

yes, and hold guys accountable. if someone is not defending, then yank them out of the game until they defend, even Harden.

thing is McHale will whine after the game when he should have done something about it during the game when it still mattered

Yesterday's game didn't do much to alleviate concerns.

Put yourself in their shoes, you're tired and kinda hurt so you probably want to see what this team can do before you put in the effort to defend.

We are just really, really young guys. With our average age around 24, do you really expect defensive consistency? Defensive IQ?

    Come on now.

Synergy has Lin and Bev equal in overall defense.

If our team has championship aspirations, then yes. Until then, we're just a playoff fodder.

This is not acceptable reasoning at all. So what, we're supposed to just pay these coaches and players millions and millions of dollars until they get to the right age? They're professionals, and they're expected to do a job, especially if this team thinks they are contenders.

Uhmmm experience is a bit important. And a young average age usually entails up and downs. Yeah it sucks but you can't pretend that what knote32 said is trivial.

Experience is important but there is a difference between being a wily veteran and just being interested in playing defense at all.

We will soon find out. If the Rockets don't "flip a switch" and turn up defensive intensity, and soon, the season will be over before you know it.

Prior to both of them being injured, in the month of March, the highest points scored on us was 113 against Miaimi and Portland which went to overtime. After that, Other teams averaged 113 pts against us.

Those numbers show their impact defensively.

The problem is not always with consistency or IQ. Sometimes it has to do with effort. Are you telling me Harden don't have any defensive IQ?

Lets use simple stats which Clutch have shown us before. The numbers are clear. The difference between Lin and Bev is 2.1 in DefRtg.

Four straight games against playoff teams(including #2 and #3 in the west) plus four additional games against teams ranked #3,2,3, and 4 in pace had a lot to do with it too.

The defense drop off has more to do with Dwight missing than Bev missing. We put Bev on the pedestal but I have yet to see him being a shut down defender.

In a couple of years maybe, he does have that mentality.

I thought we sucked on defense last year, but we played OKC fairly well. Picked it up several notches. It was like watching a different team. Maybe we can pull it off again. If we get the Chandler Parsons from last year's OKC series and a healthy Beverley, we've got a real chance.

Well, we lost to nets and raptors because tjones was sick and dmo was in foul trouble.
Bev playing also means we don't have to rely on a second round rookie as back up pg

This is a good point. Is his conditioning still not 100%, or is it mental?
