Now that Tony Parker's really turning in franchise type performance at San Antonio, what about reports linking Kidd to San Antonio once his contract is up? Does Tony Parker's elevated status with the Spurs give the Rox a real shot with a real pointguard (Kidd)?
NJ would be crazy to let Kidd go. I dont think we have enough to offer NJ in return for Kidd. They have all the pieces right now to compete.
Will NJ be under the cap? I thought I heard they will be. If that is the case, how about Francis and Rice for Kidd in a sign and trade?
I agree the Nets will be nuts to let Kidd go. With the spectacular way NJ has progressed to date and that will probably convince him to stay on (especially if the Nets get spanked by the Western Conf champs). BUT he will be a free agent and has so far not negotiated a contract extension, so he may be open to talk to anyone. He got traded to the east pretty much against his wish, and he has expressed a preference for the West in the past (although to be fair he has publicly stated him liking for NJ lately). Who knows... maybe with a new coach, a young team to lead, a brand new arena, free agency, competitiveness of the West... Kidd may just be willing to hear the Rox out.
Tony Parker will definitely be more preferably, but definitely more unavailable as well. 20 year old lighting it up in the playoffs...
Unlike Kidd, Tony Parker will never be the best point guard in the league. He just doesn't have the natural court awareness that Kidd has. The mind can't be taught to process information at the level that Kidd does, he was simply born with it. And there's no way that NJ would want Steve Francis and Glen Rice for Jason Kidd. First off, NJ has much better pieces for a player like him. Jefferson and Martin are the kind of forwards that a guy like Kidd needs, while you may argue that Griffin can run the floor like Martin, he can't finish like Martin, and it has become painfully obvious with the way he has played. While Yao Ming has the potential to be great, he can't run the floor like Jason Collins. Now I'm not saying Jason Collins is better than Yao Ming, he's far from it, but Collins is a good fit for the kind of ball that Jason Kidd likes. I think if it came down to it, he'd want to stay in NJ over going to Houston.
Bottom line is, Kidd would have to want to come here. We can't sign him as a FA, so the only other way would be to do a sign and trade. Well hes obviously not going to sign with the Nets and let them trade him to the Rockets if he doesnt want to come here. The question is; why would he WANT to come here (given the fact that we already have an all-star PG)?
Kidd will be resigned for the Max. He's got a proven winner he can stay with, no reason to leave for an uncertain situation with the Rockets. Also they have a (can't believe I'm saying this) legitimate shot at winning with the Lakers out of it. The Nets play a style of ball that will test the Spurs to the max, just like Phoenix. If they win he stays, if they don't he stays. Had they gone out in the first round this may have been a valid string...
That's got to be a joke, right? Tony Parker, better???? Parker is good. Occasionally he gets hot and scores a lot. But Kidd does that also. GIven that Parker is younger, he may become the better scorer when all is said and done, but Kidd pplays PG like Magic and Isiah.
What the hell are you smoking? If Tony Parker is ever even half as good as Jason Kidd is now I would be surprised. He averaged 5.3 assists a game this year. Do you know how insane people around this board would go if Steve onlyl averaged 5 assists a game? Kidd meanwhile, led his team to the finals, again, led the league in assists, again, and is the best point guard of his generation.
For Kidd, the trophy's on the other side of the saran wrap - it's close. He needs to stay in Jersey...his greatest chance will be in NJ.
