I think this is a good idea. At 4 you have to assume the box it comes in will be as popular as the gift itself. You have to consider mileage and how much 'play' you will get out of drums. $200 for drums that will be played for 5 seconds ..then sitting in corner.. to be sold at garage sale 2 years down line seems a little silly. I would consider a bouncy house rental for party and there are ones you can buy as well. those are always fun. My son is 4 and loves toy story. There are plenty of toys in that category. Movie toys are familiar and are played with more. My friends son is same age and he loves matchbox cars. and IPSAC is tashdub
A drum kit? For your own kid? Hint from an old timer: you buy a drum kit for your niece or nephew or grandchild when one of your siblings or your grown kid pisses you off. Sit back and relax.
Harsh. If you really want him to learn drums, start your son off with a practice pad and sticks. Oh, don't forget some lessons as well.
Your child isnt growing up in the same era that any of us have grown up in. So to be realistically honest with you, anything we might have grown up with as a child may not be the best thing for him now. With that being said, I feel that the movement for children has obviously moved to digital/electronics. If you havent already gotten him on one, I would suggest a tablet for him to fool around with (netflix, apps, games, educational apps/games, etc.) This will stimulate his mind, allow for a multitude of options (music, learning, fun, movies, tv, etc) as well as prep him for what the norm is now (tablets, phones, computers). I am sure you'd be able to find a cheaper tablet on craigslist or clutchfans for your price range as well. Just my 2 cents though.
