I know this is a knee jerk reaction, however, I think there is no doubt that the team would be better with Love instead of Howard - and Asik as the starting center.
Valid discussion, but the franchise would never recover from the PR nightmare of ditching its long sought after free agent.
Much of the unreasonable hate and immaturity that plague these forums comes form dipsh!t teeny boppers. Should restrict the posting to people 25 and over and keep the kiddies out.
I don't think that's exactly true. I think it would depend tremendously on who the Rockets acquired as part of a trade. That said, per the original post, I think it's perfectly conceivable that you *could* construct a better team IF you got the right players in exchange for Dwight. However, the problem here is that Dwight is such a high level player that it would be very difficult to be sure that your team was going to be better unless he was part of a literal "no brain" trade like for a player of KD's or Lebron's stature. To some degree you could try to project a net gain of win/loss by keeping Asik and swapping Dwight for various combinations of free agents, however it would be hard to be sure. And if you were wrong you give up a top tier player for a loss or no gain at all. I suspect it will not only be much easier for Morey to move Asik and other players for pieces that improve the team, but simply lower risk. Dwight is a known quantity. And you could arguably upgrade the team just as much or more by making strategic moves "around the fringes" so to speak. This is in addition to the reduced downside risk if those incoming players end up being poor fits. It's far less devastating to make an error on a $8-12M player than a $20M+ franchise player. Sending Dwight out and getting another franchise player adds an unpredictable level of risk that could potentially cripple the franchise if it turned out to be wrong. Just look at Amare Stoudemire. If you know that Dwight has a set risk factor since you already have him, it would need to be a tremendous upside benefit to even consider taking such an extreme gamble as trading him.
