I cant get the image of of him hugging Mourning's leg out of my head, his terrible hair, or the fact like he looks like he is nocturnal. Seriously though..... 1. Dont think his coaching style would be well received by our ghetto boyz. 2. Better candidates out there for us (Silas, various assistants, possibly Brown) GET WELL RUDY!!!

JVG will get NO respect from the players b/c he never played in the pros. Don't think at the college level either. Another Rocket-Man would be suffice is Pat Riley, if possible. "He knows how to use a BIG MAN" -Dream
I think you're overestimating this. Popovic never played pros. Brown...well, if he played in the pros, he did so briefly. Rudy might earn respect as an ex-player, but it also brings drawbacks. He kept drafting skinny white guy small forwards, and the jury's still out on his last attempt to replace himself as a player (Boki). JVG or Silas. Make it happen.
Silas underachieved with the Hornets. Silas is basically a poor man's Rudy T. Why bring back a player's coach, who is similar to a coach we just fired?
I don't know about that. The Hornets' star PG goes down with an injury for major portions of the last two years and they still made it to the playoffs. Playing in the Least has something to do with that, but I don't consider him an underachiever and I doubt you'd find many others who'd agree with you.
Larry Brown led the Sixers in assists during one season, I don't know exactly which one. I'm at work, so I don't have time to research it. He did play however, and I think he would be the best candidate to coach here. He always spoke so highly of Yao before Yao's rookie season, I think he would love to coach here.
Van Gumby? Where did you get that from? I think it would be absolutely horrible to see Jeff Van Gumby as our new head coach. He doesn't even look like he knows how to dribble.
I'll join - no to Van Gundy - he's not the answer - I don't remember ever thinking he was brilliant while watching his Knicks teams... And if anybody did, please tell me why. I'd love to hear why people like the guy so much (besides the sucking up to Yao part).
Oh, one more thing - you don't need NBA experience to be a good head coach. Do you seriously think that any of the players today really care about the playing records of an older coach from an earlier era? I think it would apply if you're dealing with a newcomer who has no head coaching experience, but JVG does, so it's not as important. He has a track record.
Van Gundy will never make it as a coach in the West. I think Del Harris would make a good choice. We need to keep Rudy.
Put me on the "Van Gundy is over hyped/over rated" bandwagon. Wouldn't mind seeing Brown or Riley. I don't care too much about replacements right now. This is like getting a divorce. The last thing you want to think about afterwards is finding a new girlfriend.
Im thinking that would be a good thing, especially since the coaching style they may find more agreeable has them in the lottery for the 4th straight year.
I think it's absurd that so many of you guys think so lowly about Van Gundy. He's one of the best coaches in the league or available and he's won wherever he's coached. His coaching reputation is not matched by many except for the likes of guys like Larry Brown. He's a work horse who studies the game and has his teams prepared. Looking at it objectively, I don't think there's any way you can say he's not a great coach.
