Outside of his boneheaded plays, Jeremy actually has a pretty reliable 2pt jumper. But lets ignore that and jump on the flame-train just for the sake of bashing Lin and flashing our big ballz/brainz to the LOFs. Kind of sad reading some of these posts... Lets guess who these shot charts belong to: A. Spoiler B. Spoiler C. Spoiler Answers Spoiler A. Jeremy Lin B. James Harden C. Wolverine (P. Bev)
I think because other players are standing and watching, thus all the defenders could key in Jeremy, so it is 1 v 5. The spacing is really off, and you can see other than Asik stay down low, all the rest players are clustered at the top, nobody is down in the corner, thus one defender could well take care two players, and left the rest to pack the paint, obviously it would be better for Jeremy to drive, but with this spacing, he has no lane to drive. I think Casspi from the beginning was out of the position, he suppose to go down to the left corner, thus when Jeremy's initial drive, he attracted almost all the defenders to him, but there is no one in the corner for him to kick the ball out, since Casspi move up wards when Jeremy is driving, he basically left his defender to Jeremy, he was open but that's an awkward angle for a pass . And Parsons is also moving up, so there is no space for James Harden to operate either........
LOL, is that what you see? First Harden sets a back pick for Parsons, so he can cut to the basket. Jeremy isn't looking, but the timing isn't right so it doesn't work. Asik gets in position, Jeremy gets his screen setter, runs the pick and roll, misses the open man in Parsons who is ready for the shot and loops back around under the basket with a clear look at the next open shooter (Casspi) that the play has created. Harden starts to leak out expecting for Casspi to take the shot and pre-emptively cut off the potential fast break on a miss. For whatever reason, Jeremy doesn't make the pass, and you can see Casspi visibly confused with what Lin is doing, as he throws his hands up. Lin resets and has a big on him with Parson's man sliding off of Chandler knowing he is going to have to help the big. Parsons anticipates the open look and gets set up to take the shot. Instead of going right around the big, forcing Parsons man to help and create the shot, Jeremy steps just inside the three point line and takes the worst shot in basketball. This is a picture perfect example of low BBIQ. He missed 3 shooters and didn't even salvage the play by taking a three.
What's the big deal? Do you really understand the play? Asik set a screen for Lin, Lin drove by Paul, Jordan help on time, Lin did not challenge Jordan on the rim, he circled around and drew Jordan outside, the mismatch created, Jordan on Lin, Paul on Asik. It was a good development! Now, Lin has a few options, the best is Asik moves over Paul's fronting, Lin passes the ball inside, Asik post up Paul, unfortunately Asik did not move to the left side, instead he leaves the space for Lin to work on Jordan, Lin can either drive by Jordan or creat a little space to make a pull up. He did the latter which is right, since it is a little jammed with two defenders around under the rim. Don't tell me you think Lin should give up the play and pass it to the perimeters. Because that would be a bad play! Because you have to redevelop a mismatch and the clippers are zoning that side. I understand the frustration toward Lin, but taking this play for an example is not right.
The clippers were zoning parson's side. How could he get open? The clipper played good d in this play. I wish Asik could move over Paul's fronting, that would be a big advantage, considerring the size difference.
Harden was in position to set a back screen for Parsons even before Asik comes to the front court, by the time Asik set the screen and Jeremy drive, Parsons is not open anymore. And before Asik set the screen, there is no passing lane for Jeremy to pass it over to "potentially open" Parsons. And while Jeremy is driving, Casspi is open, but his man has constantly stay in between Casspi and Jeremy, that would not be a safe pass there. And the way Casspi moved, there is not space for James get into the play either.
The only part that Lin did wrong was that fancy dribbling and that fadeaway shot at the end. What happened before that doesn't matter since he ended up having a mismatch, which was created by the play anyway.
Casspi and Parsons aren't exactly lighting it up from 3 in this game. Asik is a huge mismatch for Chris Paul, but has problems catching a simple pass and might fumble the ball away for Paul to steal. Deandre Jordan might look slow, but he's actually very quick laterally and one of the best NBA centers at cutting off penetration and protecting the rim. In that situation, most guards would have taken the shot. Harden would have taken that shot 95% of the time.
I'll give you the Parson's zone, it was 50/50. The Harden backscreen was a broken set, the only reason I mentioned it, was to dispel the myth that others were not involved in the play. They were. No, Casspi's man was facing towards the "north side" of the court, Lin had a wide open passing lane, behind the defender You can even see Casspi dumbfounded as Lin doesn't make the pass, throwing his arms up. These are the types of problems you face with a mediocre PG. Unable to hit hard passes, unable to read the defense and create the space, and unable to create something out of nothing.
didnt look like a good angle at the time and casspi was moving behind the defender. i think he should of cut the other way and then lin could give him a screen.
exactly! I also feel Casspi moved the wrong way, and he also blocked James out of the play by the way he moved. Also after the shot, Casspi was so upset that he did not get the pass, that he did not run back for defense. James took the risk trying to steal the ball, thus he lost his position, but Casspi should run back then. But instead, he was waiting there and hope James would steal the ball and pass out to him, and he actually blocked Parsons there.
It is hard for a PG to operate if the teammates are not cooperating. I could only say that this play showing the team is really not disciplined, and at least here shown players are a little selfish.....
Lol Ill give you prop for the attempt, but Beverly is there for the defense so it doesn't matter if all of his shot charts are red.

Lol so he plays good defense on our worst offensive player and scores on our worst defensive player... in practice.
haha, play defense against a so so offensive player and play offense against a so so defensive player... nice videos, but it does not say much or prove much, it is practice.
He would be surrounded by big men in the paint if he attempted that same move in a game, and it would just be another iteration of Lin picking up his dribble.
To be fair, you've failed to consider the fact that that this turnover can be prevented because he'll stand in the corner and won't get the ball.
