With Jerry West's luck, Memphis could win the #1 pick by winning the lottery outright and then get the #2 with the Rocket's lotto pick. Who would he pick and would he then would he trade any of his new or current players? What a nightmare for the Rocks!

i imagine he'd pick lebron and darko. hell i would...you can never go wrong with more size in the west. now it would be interesting to see if the team who wins the #1 pick will trade it for something absurd in order for someone else to get lebron.

I get the feeling that if West were to get so "lucky" in the draft, there wouldn't be much actual luck to it.

The Memphis pick would, however, go to Detroit if it is not the #1 pick.

Does anyone remeber who Detroit traded to get that #1????

Hint: Former Rocket

Eric Floyd??? I don't think he has been in the league for at least 7 or 8 years.

The answer is: Otis Thorpe. Straight up.

Can you believe that Detroit might get Lebron or Carmello and all they had to give up was Otis friggin Thorpe?

Great example of why the Grizzlies have been inept since their inception.

All things being equal, I think he would draft Lebron and Darko and then trade Swift and Williams for a point guard like Cassell, Payton or Andre Miller.

Payton/Knight - PG
James/Person - SG
Miller/Battier - SF
Gasol/Milicic - PF
Wright/Trybanski - C

Well, LeBron's nickname is "King" and Memphis is the home of "the King" Elvis Presley. Woudn't surprise me a bit if West somehow lands the top pick.

Otis Thorpe is who Memphis acquired from Detroit for that lotto pick. Silly move.

Give some examples of what you consider Jerry West's luck.

He was lucky the Good Lord blessed him with a basketball skills and a brain -- he used both to gain a position where he could lure S. O'Neal and trade for K. Bryant.:D

West is awsome but Im still scratching my head for the trade he made to get Mike Miller...He is overrated though he is lucky that Shaq thought he had a acting career, he is lucky the "selfish" kobe bryant demanded a trade to a big city (Chicago NY or LA)...Having both Kobe and Shaq both wanting to come to LA is very lucky every GM could have pulled that off

....yup, he brought Memphis luck!

David Stern: "with the 13th pick of the 2003 nba draft, Memphis Grizzlies selects Judas Iscariot!"

... GOOD LUCK next year, Jerry West... I feel really bad for you.:( :( :(

lol same here.

Gooden AND Giricek...

Gooden himself is better than Mike Miller.

Giricek is just like Miller...except smaller and maybe cheaper.

Did you see the look on Jerry's face when he found out that he got the number 2 pick? The man did not look too pleased.

That is one raw deal. Let's see: It's down to #2 and #1. Heads, you get LeBron James. Tails, you get . . . nada.
