If she makes it through the day under par, this tournament could set a record for most early withdraws in PGA history. :)

3 putted on that hole. She has only missed one fairway today, but she has to make her putts.

    At whos expense?
She coulda just played a Pro-Am (she did and shot a +1) or played with some guy pros on her own time.
OK its all about Annika this week. All about her.
I know, I know, and its ok.

I'm not hating, I just dont think its very interesting to me, rather more of a waste.

Just the fact that we are talking about it on a basketball BBS shows it wasn't a waste for the PGA, Bank of Americal or the Colonial. This is the first time since Tiger's first round as a pro that I actually have followed someone's scorecard this closely on a Thursday.

    Very true...exactly!:D
SOOOO, could it be agreed apon that it wasn't all about her just "trying to be as good as she can be against the best in the world", riiiight?;)
Coverage (Look at the coverage, its all over the papers and interent like she were Tiger), Money (from all this coverage), Hype (we're talking about it here on a basketball BBS!), more TV time for the Colonial, more$$$$ for everyone.
    Its about all these things.

    At whos expense?

At the expense of some scrub golfer who is not good enough to actually make the PGA tour on his own merits. No big loss there.

So anyone who does something that generates hype and coverage is automatically doing it because of those things? How exactly do you know her motivations?

Really? Your repeated postings in this thread would suggest otherwise. You may not like the topic, but it seems it definitely interests you.

As far as the money aspect, let's face it, the PGA is a business. Just like any other pro sports organization, they're in it to make money. Once they realized the kind of press Annika was going to net them, they jumped right in. I wouldn't expect otherwise. But Annika is not the recipient of any of that additional revenue. In fact, she passed up a very likely chance to win an LPGA event this weekend so she could play here. So, for her, this may be a monetary loss.

Darn, a bogey on the last hole. Here is a short recap from ESPN on each hole. She only missed one fairway all day, and a few putts were close but didnt go in.

    Started on the 10th hole.

    Hole 10: 404 yards, par-4
Sorenstam's opening tee shot (the first shot hit by a woman on the PGA Tour in 58 years) went straight and true, 243 yards down the middle of the fairway. Her second shot (9-iron) found the center of the green, about 14 feet from the hole. The birdie putt came up short, but she nailed the second putt for PAR.

    Hole 11: 609 yards, par-5
Another straight tee shot, right down the middle of the fairway (258 yards). Using a fairway wood on her second shot, she layed up about 130 yards short of the hole. Her third shot, a short iron, landed about 15 feet from the hole. Her first putt (fourth shot) came up short, but she drained her second one for a second straight PAR.

    Hole 12: 433 yards, par-4
She was in the fairway again off the tee, about 260 yards. Her second shot came up just short of the green. For the third straight hole, she left her first putt (third shot) short of the cup. She hit her second putt for a third straight PAR.

    Hole 13: 178 yards, par-3
Her 6-iron off the tee at first par-3 of the day landed just off the back side of the green, about 15 feet from the hole. She drained the putt from off the green for her first BIRDIE on the PGA Tour.

    Hole 14: 457 yards, par-4
After hitting the fairway again off the tee (280 yards), her second shot landed a few feet from the cup, but rolled about 28 feet away. Her first putt (third shot) came up a few rolls short and she hit her second one for a PAR.

    Hole 15: 430 yards, par-4
Her tee shot found the far-right side of the fairway, about 250 yards. Her second shot landed on the green, about 20 feet from the hole. Her first putt (third shot) went just past the hole, and she hit her second one for PAR.

    Hole 16: 188 yards, par-3
Her tee shot hit the rough just beyond a bunker to the right, then took a kick to the left and settled 6 feet from the hole. She just missed the short birdie putt to the right, and settled for PAR.

    Hole 17: 383 yards, par-4
She's in the fairway again off the tee, about 215 yards. Her approach from 160 yards hit the green, but was more than 30 feet from the hole. Her long birdie putt just missed, and she made another PAR.

    Hole 18: 427 yards, par-4
Make it 7-for-7 for Sorenstam in fairways hit on her first nine. She got another good bounce on her 205-yard approach shot, which bounced out of the right rough onto the green. Her birdie putt rolled just to the left of the hole, and she sank the comebacker for PAR.

    Hole 1: 565 yards, par-5
This was her second, and final, par-5 of the day. She found the fairway again off the tee (266 yards), and layed up with her second shot. Her third stroke landed on the green, about 15 feet behind the hole. Her birdie putt rolled just past the cup, and she hit the second putt for another PAR.

    Hole 2: 400 yards, par-4
Hit her ninth straight fairway (217 yards) to start things off on this dogleg. Her second shot found the green, about 40 feet from the cup. Her birdie putt sailed 6 feet past the hole. She hit the comebacker for PAR.

    Hole 3: 476 yards, par-4
On the first hole of the "Horrible Horseshoe" -- the hardest three-hole stretch on the course -- Sorenstam hit another fairway off the tee. Her approach shot from about 210 yards found the green -- 12 feet from the hole. Her birdie putt was short, and she sank her second putt for PAR.

    Hole 4: 246 yards, par-3
Using a fairway wood off the tee, Sorenstam reached the front of the green at Colonial's longest par-3. Her birdie putt came up short, but she sank the next to make her ninth straight PAR.

    Hole 5: 470 yards, par-4
Sorenstam missed her first fairway of the round, hitting her tee shot into the left rough on this dogleg-right. She hit a great approach shot from around 200 yards, running a 4-iron up onto the green. Her long birdie putt came up short, and her par putt from about 6 feet just missed. The result was her first BOGEY of the round.

    Hole 6: 393 yards, par-4
After her first bogey, Sorenstam went back to work, hitting another fairway off the tee. Her approach shot settled on the green pin-high about 20 feet from the cup. She ran her birdie attempt about 5 feet past the hole, but sank the next (hitting the left edge) for PAR.

    Hole 7: 427 yards, par-4
She took driver out on this par-4, nailing her tee shot down the middle of the fairway about 255 yards. Her 170-yard approach shot found the front of the green. Her birdie putt from around 25 feet fell a few rolls short of the cup, and she hit the tap-in for PAR.

    Hole 8: 192 yards, par-3
Hitting a 6-iron off the tee, she found the fringe on the front of the green. Her birdie putt looked tentative, and settled a few feet from the hole. She hit the next putt for PAR.

    Hole 9: 402 yards, par-4
Sorenstam was in the fairway off the tee again. For her round, she hit 13 of 14 fairways. With mud on her ball, she hit her approach from 167 yards just off the back of the green. The mud was still on her ball for her third shot, a putt that went well beyond the cup. She missed the 7-foot comebacker and made her second BOGEY.

    Yes you are correct.
Actually it annoys me Mrs. JB
Yes, the idea annoys me, but I wont watch her on T.V. because it does not interest me.
Watching a lady golf on T.V. is about as exciting as watching a the WNBA.
OK no more from me on this thread.
sorry I'm too honest, not well thought out enough and too blunt and country folk to debate with you kids.
    GOOD LUCK ANNIKA!!
    GIRL POWER!!!
    EQUAL RIGHTS FOR EVERYONE!!!!
    STOP THE VIOLENCE!!!!

How do any of you people know her motivations? Who the F*ck are any of us?!
You Pro-Annika people keep insisting its ALL about the competition, but its really about ALOT of other things too.
    Dont be ignorant to this.
I dont think its so pure as you guys wish, but hey this will be good business thats for sure, and thats just fine.

+1 after the first day. Not too damn bad. I wish her well and wish I could afford lessons from her coach.

You're the only one to claim to know her motivations. Others have merely given reasons as to why they think her motives are pure. As Mrs. JB pointed out, as far as tourney money goes, she is likely losing money in this particular venture.

Yeah, but it's looking like if she does the same in the second round, she won't make the cut.

    THAT IS A LIE
QUOTE ME ON THIS THREAD WHERE I CLAIMED TO KNOW HER MOTIVATIONS

    I think...I think...I think...thats pretty much what we're all doing here homeboy.
    what do you think?

ROCKSS - I think it`s as simple as she wants to test herself against the best in the world to see if she can compete. No more, no less

Mrs.JB - I think most true athletes would rather test their talents against those who are at a higher skill level, than try and prove their talents by beating those at a lower skill level.

Surfguy - I don't like her mustache. I hope she doesn't make the cut.
    LOL!:D

    What's next?

Lisa Leslie gets a roster exemption to play for the Lakers just because she dunked in a WNBA game  There are high school teams that could run WNBA teams off the court.

mr_oily - The only reason she's out there is because of the idea and curiosity it brings and of course the coverage it'll bring the tournee not to mention the $$$Ca-ching-ching.
    IMHO, all the wrong reasons.
