u had me until there, the difference between shaq and dwight is that shaq is enormous and at the time, the strongest player in the league, he could dominate the post with sheer will and underrated finesse/footwork, howard can't do the same things
Howards's game is still evolving. He won't ever be a dominant post player because those days are gone with the rule changes. But he's also never going to develop a 10 foot J. Which is fine in this offensive schema. Also long as you pair him with a 4 that has some range. Really can't complain about Howard much. he's already doing much more than I had expected when we signed him.
That's all true. I mentioned Shaq because he is well know as a guy who can't shoot, like Dwight. If you look at the numbers, though, you will find that while Shaq was obviously a poor shooter, he's still a lot better than Dwight.
Okay, that's great. What are all the possible outcomes of dropping the ball down low to him? I know for a fact, at least recently, 25% of the time it's a turnover. What are the known outcomes. I imagine being fouled is at least another 20%. Dude's not talented enough to be considered a given positive outcome down low. He's just not that good down there. Pick and roll, he's excellent. Less dribbling, more catching and finishing.
No, he still has you. Shaq has a shooting touch, he could consistently hit the baby hook or the little bunnies that Howard routinely misses.
Definitely NOT polished. I think he has this year and next year to develop a polished offensive game, before we pass judgement. It's already evident Hakeem's training is having an impact, but he needs more time and an off season to get to the point where its instinctual. If he gets to that point, he will be unstoppable alongside Harden and the rest.
that isnt really inconsitency its more about who is guarding him. have a mediocre or smaller defender, he can bully his way to points like he did with kaman. put somebody that makes him work and you start to see howard's flaws stand out
Both of them are/were about 50% on those shots, Dwight might have even been better at them, Shaq didn't turn it over as much and his big booty drop step counter move was money well into his 30's even without his youthful athleticism, whereas Dwight's took a large drop off when his back got injured. When he had that great counter move like he did in Orlando, he was one of the best post players in the nba, but his was based on athleticism whereas Shaq always had his up until he got way too old.
Dwight pretty much only has one post up move, the left handed hook shot. If an opponent denies that move, then it just becomes a mess.
What is our record again ladies and gents? Ron MetaWorldPeace Artest don't know wth he talking about.
Dwight has improved a lot in the post since we first got him this season. He dominates weaker centers, but he struggles against tough post defenders. When he gets doubled he loses his dribble a lot.
While I strongly believe this is a perfect example of the pot calling the kettle black here, it's not like MWP is wrong about it. Dwight does do exactly those thing and it makes us rage. Granted he's improved, but it still sucks how often Dwight loses it or forces up a bad shot. I saw Hakeem play and later Yao, so I suppose I am spoiled. There was that godawful stint of watching Hayes trying to play offense though. Anyone remember his FT? LOL
Morey said it himself, when Dwight gets the ball, a lot of attention directly goes to him and the defense has no choice but to respond. It has been this way for a while. He gets his players a lot of open threes and open looks for a reason.
