good god, I spent so many quarters on street fighter in the 7-11 in front of my neighborhood. then stop n go bought it out and shut it down.
Unless it's an emergency, I pretty much do my business at Stripes. Cheap gas, always clean, fresh coffee, good selection of stuff, and if you're in a hurry the food isn't terrible.
My last experience at a 7-Eleven included a crack w**** holding an empty brown sack stumbling for a bathroom and then the 70-something clerk say he couldn't believe he saw someone wearing a Lone Star t-shirt (I was not wearing a Lone Star shirt, FYI) because he hasn't seen that beer in ages. I told him I wanted to buy that beer instead of the 8.99 sixer of Coors, but here I am. Ah, Fort Worth.
They are really trying in Houston with Stripes. Bucees needs to open up more locations. Living in DFW spoiled me with all of their QTs and 7/11s. I never went to any other gas station. QT always had the cheapest gas, and if I was hungry I would get a buffalo chicken thing or one of those steak taquito. So good man. Good coffee selection also. One thing though is the employees are out in the open. I have noticed a lot of the gas stations in Houston have glass between the register and customer. Maybe that's one reason why they won't come here. Or politics. Or afraid of Bucees.
As someone who is living in the Philippines, I attest to this. There's about five 7-Eleven stores within a four kilometer radius of my home.
When I was a kid, there was a marina floating store called "U-Flotem" on Lake Travis that had a similar sign as U-totem. After a few years, U-totem threatened to sue so they changed the name to just "flotem". Then when the U-totems disappeared, they changed the name back to U-flotem and its still there today.
I'm pretty sure there was one near my house when I lived in Texas City. But, I only lived there until I started preschool, so the whole memory could be complete BS. The closest one nowadays is probably in Edna, TX. https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Hou...150c0e921709fd!2m2!1d-96.6405421!2d28.9729592
I was surprised that they weren't in Houston actually when I was there recently. They are all over the place here in So Cal. I remember watching an episode of undercover boss and their corporate HQ is actually in Dallas which made it even more surprising that they have not tried to enter the Houston market. Or maybe because they are in Dallas they do want to enter the Houston market. Personally 7-11 are great - they are expensive for items and have limited selection but its like that for a reason - you pay for the convenience. Whenever its later at night and I need something its easier to go to a 7-11 and be in and out quick than try to risk going to the store only to find they are closed. Some of the 7-11s were converted to Kwik-E-Marts several years back as part of a promo for the Simpsons movie since the Kwik-E-Mart was based off of 7-11s.
Have a 7-11 just in front of my neighborhood (in Round Rock). I remember the one in front of the neighborhood where I grew up in Spring...off of Spring Steubner (sp?). My friends and I would ride up there every day during the summers to get Slurpees and play video games. This was the early 80's.
Buc-ee's is da ****. I felt weird leaving there the other day with just a coffee. I normally have at least one kolache, some sesame sticks, and beer (freaking cheap).
Y'all have no idea. I worked for the one in Madisonville for 15 months. "Hell" doesn't describe it. I've worked more than a few terrible customer service jobs in my time, but Buc-ee's is in a league of its own. There is no worse company to work for.
nah, skip the over-crowded, over-rated, over-sized rat and stop at Woodys down the road. Better food, less people.
