Harold Miner was 'Baby Jordan". Jerry Stackhouse was going to be the NBA's next big superstar. OJ Mayo was the next Lebron. Grreg Oden was compared to Bill Russell. Lamar Odom the second coming of Magic Johnson. Those quotes are and comparisons are meaningless.

If you honestly think that Lin has the ability to become Nash or Parker then it's pointless even discussing this further

You can also start by comparing players that also had great starts (Linsanity) and see how they did over time. I think at the time when Linsanity happened, there was a lot of articles on that, and players who had great starts. I think that would be a good place to start.

Lin seems to play very well in Harden's absence, just like Asik seems to play much better replacing Howard instead of alongside Howard. We have two very good players, but they have overlapping skillset with our stars.

Duh... Lin cannot and should not be compared to some of the great PGs of the past because he hasn't achieved any level of consistency or superb play for an extended period of time as they have. Only time will tell how he develops. He could turn out to be a dud or he could end up being a really good PG.

I could be wrong, but I think the Lin fans are saying he could be that type of player in the future (at least I hope so) and you're arguing he isn't now (again at least I hope so). The fact is nobody in this entire world knows. We can only assume either way. So why is this even being argued?

Second, the major flaw and difference in your Tony Parker argument is that MJ never said that about Harold Miner or Stackhouse. Lebron never said that about Mayo and Russell sure as hell never said that about Oden and so on. If Tony Parker can see a younger version of him in Lin so be it. End of story. What's the big deal?

I swear some of yall are dumb as dirt arguing over apples and oranges. What a waste of cyberspace. Lin is currently a role player. Why the endless circle jerk and obsession with him?

I can't speak for the Lin fans so I'll refrain and let them do that but I'm not arguing he isn't those guys now. That is blatantly obvious. I'm arguing that he won't attain that level of play.

I'm sure I could find a multitude of player quotes that were way off base as well. I didn't say it was a big deal. I was just disagreeing with it. It's a conversation and nobody is flying off the handle. Differing opinions is what typically makes a discussion.

Again, outside of some of the LOFs I don't think anyone is obsessed with him at all. He's just the most popular topic of conversation due the the vastly different opinions on him.

To be fair most of these comparisons come from the media and usually before they get into the nba. Most of the time it is predraft hype. Harold miner certainly didn't have Michael calling him baby Jordan. You are underrating stackhouse and odom too. Odom was pretty nice when he was in Miami. And Stackhouse was not a superstar but he was like the tier below. An who knows what would have been oden if he didn't get hurt.

because some people are really, really bothered by the fact that others would have such high opinions and aspirations for lin's career. why anyone, especially a rockets fan, would be upset over someone else's high opinion of another rockets player, i will never understand.

and some people are really, really bothered by other's low opinion of lin, even though it has no ramifications on how he performs on the court and his bank account. but then here we are...

it basically boils down to "he sucks now and forever" - "no he doesn't he's awesome now and will be even more awesome later". and back and forth...

Spot on. It is not like one's opinion can change anything in real life.

Lin won't be this so called "roll player" for long when he's traded to the new team he will probably be a started.

I can name you about only 4 teams that would consider starting him, nobody else would unless there are some injuries.

    Bucks, Philly, NYK, maybe Detroit.

    Care to prove me wrong?

Lakers, New Orleans, Orlando, maybe Minnesota if Love leaves and they decide to dump Rubio.

I will never understand this either. They remind me of parents and teachers that tell kids they'll never amount to anything or to face reality. Lin fans have a dream for their hero's future? Let them. You think you'll change their minds? Really? Do you think they'll change yours? Didn't think so.

Pretty sure you're the first person to ever call him a roll player.

But for real guys, there's nothing wrong with being a role player. Starters can be role players, too. Starters, in fact, can be role players on championship caliber teams if they fit with the rest of the starting 5 and team well enough. See: Shane Battier.

"Role player" and yes he will unless he's on a team that's tanking.

Which brings about the question; would you rather see Jeremy get his numbers and lead his team to 25-35 wins or have him play the role of a back-up and contend for a title?

He's great off the bench, but he's slightly overpaid (average yearly salary). You're a biased fan if you think he can start, especially on this team where the perimeter lacks defense.

Patrick Bev is a better version of Rafer. Imagine if we had a Bev type with the Tmac/Yao era. Never mind, one of them was always hurt. Sigh....

That's pretty sad. He's an NBA player not MLK
