I just booked a Caribbean cruise for my parents for November on the "Explorer of the Seas". Just wondering...have you done a cruise before? Any recommendations for specific companies/routes/things to do on board/etc.?

    Thanks!

    SJC,

I went on one a few years ago. LOVED IT. Everyone should experience a cruise at least once. No telephones. No computers. Just alcohol and relaxation.

Where did you go and with what company? Any word about the ship/the crowd?

I went on one cruise my senior year of high school. It was with Carnival. It went: New Orleans - Tampa - Playa Del Carmen - Cozumel - Cancun - New Orleans. I had a blast.

    I've been on 3 cruises...

2 were Disney, and 1 was some norwegian company I can't remember.

    I loved all 3 cruises.

Disney does have a pretty excellent cruise program, but I definitely wouldn't suggest it for couples or college aged people. A lot of MILFs were on that boat though...

The cruises I've been on have been excellent for both "on-board" and "on location" activities.

I went on the same cruise that EddieGriffin did. It was a smaller, older ship (decor was a lil out of date) called the Celebration. There were about 1,500 people on board but the funny thing is, it never seemed crowded. The ship was so big that we never had to wait in line for anything.

My next cruise (next year maybe), will be with Princess Cruise Lines who has much bigger, better and prettier ships than Carnival.

I went on a 5 day cruise to the Carribean on Carnival Cruise Lines a year or two ago. I loved it, every bit of it, and I'm not even a party-type guy. I imagine the people that love to drink and dance loved it even more than me. My cruise line was even detoured (never got to Cancun or Cozumel) because of a hurricane. We went to Vera Cruz instead, and that was loads of fun. I highly recommend everyone taking a cruise.

I have been on several. The best was a northwest passage cruise, Vancouver to Alaska and back. The cruise line was Holland America, I vaguely recall. This cruise was one of the last hsip that got access to Glacier Nation Park. Great food, good entertainment.

I also did a Carnival cruise. It was a three day cruise from LA to Mexico. Got back early and cruise the channel islands and did some whale watching which was very cool. Mediocre food, great entertainment (may be due to the departure port being LA). Fairly young crowd.

    I've been on RCI's "Voyager of the Seas" (Miami-Labadee-Jamaica-Grand Cayman-Cozumel-Miami, 7 days) in 2001.

It was OK. There is a casino. Ice rink. Cirque-de-Solei type shows.
Gym. Library. Internet Access (A dollar A Minute!!!). Putt Putt Golf. Rollerblading. Basketball court. Rock climbing wall. Shuffleboard. Ping Pong table. Promenade Parade. Shops.

Lots of stuff to do but I got a little sea sick.

I went on a 7 day Carnival cruise: San Juan, St Thomas, St. Marten. I was only 11 or 12 at the time, so my experience would be different than an adults. My brother has been on several. He said that he liked the Royal Carribean cruises better than Carnival. Another option, that I personally liked better was to just go to a resort down there. You don't have to deal with motion sickness or anything, and there is more time to do island stuff, instead of just the stuff available on ship (which is usally stuff you could really do anywhere, like swimming, basketball, skeet shooting, clubbing, seing a show, etc.) JMO.

I agree with Stupid M (Hydra). Just go to the island you like.

Earlier question - it was a royal carribean norwegian or whatever.
Who cares. My wife made me go. I boiled with resentment most of the horrible sentance. Of course, I have a BIG problem whenever I can't leave when I choose. Boats are like that. "Yr drink price sux, cabin boy!" "Get yr own, yanqui a-hole!"

I guess if you're cool with that going in, enjoy. It makes me sick.

St. Maartin was the best island. Martinique sucked. Huge money trap. Puerto Rico is cool. Good niteclubs, restaurants, art, the fort, etc. Other islands try to stick you with trinkets and fruit tree garden tours. They suck. Virgin Islands also passable, but kinda like a big mall, except with loads of 50 yr old corvette guys out cruising in their cigarette boats. Shivers.

    Not-my-scene.

Flew from here (here is Atlanta, Georgia) all the way to London (Gatwick Airport). Then went on a motor coach to Harwich on the coast of the English Channel to get to the ship.

about 8 yrs ago my girlfriend and I went out of LA on Carnival. Stopped at Mazalan and Cabo San Lucas. It was OK, but the rooms sucked. If possible upgrade them to a better room. The food was awesome and the port of calls were fun. I had a hard time sleeping as the ship ran at night because I could feel the rocking and swaying of the boat, which is hard after a night of drinking and then a midnight buffet consisting of raw oysters and seafood:D

I have been on 4 cruises my first one was about 4 years ago on the celebration (Carvnival) out of New Orleans for 7 days. Hated the person I was with at the time but I met a lot of new friends on ship. 3 years ago I went on the Elation(Carnival) for 7 days out of LA down to Cabo, Puerto Vallerta, Mazatallan. THe water was COLD there was to much wind I would never take another cruise on that side of the states again. Last December I went on a 11 day cruise on ths Splendour of the Seas (ROYAL Carribean)out of galveston. That was the best cruise I have ever been on. We went to five ports. Cozamel was the best, just rent mopeds and cruise all the way around the island and drink at all of the little bars along the beach "GREAT". In april I went on a 6 day cruise out of Galveston on the Jubile (Carnival). We had a really good time but not great after having such a great time on the last cruise. If you are young and love to dring and party all night the go on a carnival cruise. I would recommend a ship atleast 70 tons because the smaller ships like Celebration,Jubile are a little cramped and have more motion. If you are a little older and don't want a bunch of little kids running all over the place then go on the Royal ships because they have adult areas and the boats have more things to do on them and the food is a little better. The down side with them is that they normaly close the bars and clubs at around 1AM. Unless you get in good was some of the crew :D .
I would recommend everybody go on atleast once and DO NOT BRING LITTLE KIDS unless you are putting them in the Camps on the ship.
