He's there as a defensive stopper. He's to 5's what Patrick Beverley is to 1's - he annoys the crap out of them I don't know why the Lakers didn't pick him up earlier, seeing as they pretty much gave every 5 a stepladder to the basket this season
Collins needs to get used to it. Some players will say just about ANYTHING to try and rattle you and gain an edge. That's part of professional competitive sports. If they sense the slightest weakness, they will not hesitate to exploit that. Kinda like sharks smelling blood. The bottom line is that they are under a lot of pressure to perform and win. Part of this is also ESPN and other media outlets deliberately spinning this into a "major" story. They are well aware that homosexuality is a sensitive hot-button topic these days and they will gladly use that to their advantage for ratings and hits. I think Collins should have just kept quiet for now. Once he retires then it's more appropriate to speak out.
Duncan and Bosh should just randomly visit Collins. It's obvious who they really are. The trio can form a big gay man association.
It's all blown up over nothing. He didn't complain, he was asked a question and gave an answer- and they spin it like he whined to the media. He was probably known to be gay to some players before everyone knew; so I'm sure he's heard his fair share of terms.
"One player, one knucklehead from another team," Collins told the Daily News. "He's a knucklehead. So I just let it go. Again, that goes back to controlling what you can control. That's how I conduct myself -- just being professional." sounds like he handled it fine to me... exactly, i don't know why people are complaining besides just being homophobic. he was asked and answered honestly, he didn't name names or complain
He was probably looking at the guy in the mirror, feeling sorrow for lying about his sexuality in order to stretch his NBA career a few games.
