Another audio tape surfaces which encourages terrorism. It gets broadcast on Al-Jazeera.... repeatedly. Isn't that fomenting terrorism. Why not take out Al-Jazeera television? Really.
While I'm not an Al-Jazeera fan, the answer is NO. What we should do is get someone in there to track where the tapes are coming from. The beauty of freedom is being able to see everything from everyone's point of view. The US should have a rival network to show pro-American stuff to counterbalance any anti-American things that they show.
Uh-huh. We may play those tapes occasionally but I'd bet that Al-Jazeera is propogandizing with them. That is my point. How is that not promoting terrorism?
Hey, I don't blame the British for trying to quell the American Revolution either! I'm just glad they lost...
I think Al Jazeera is a very good thing for the Middle East and I'm happy they are doing well. You (and most of America, possibly myself included) may not like what they have to say; it may be propagandistic and anti-American. I'd agree that is not in the US' short-term interest. But, it is a powerful news organization that is not beholden to any government. I think it can be a good vehicle toward developing a sophisticated free press in the Middle East, which would promote democracy, which would be in the US' long-term interest.
right...there is no right and wrong...blah, blah, blah. targetting civilians is just fine if your head is screwed up enough to believe that. and who am i to call that wrong?
Exactly!!! The US does have WMD and sometimes coddles terrorists and tyrants in the not so distant past.
I'm sorry but I feel it is wrong for any TV station to play any audio or video tape which calls on people to kill other people. If just one person ends up killing someone because of it, then Al Jazeera is co-sponser of murder in my book because they spread the word. F**k Al Jazeera...their nowhere near unbiased.
If we EVER took out a media source that was not directly owned by terrorists, tyrants and so on, we would be going against our own Constitution or values we have lived by and one of the things that makes our country so different.
Al Jazeera is the voice of terrorists. Their spreading the word to Arab Muslims to kill people of these countries based on audio tapes they receive from Al Qaeda based on Al Qaeda propaganda. Somehow, I don't think the US TV and cable news stations would air any or portions of those tapes if they received it first hand. Why would they pass a message to kill people they report to? They may discuss what are on the tapes and who was mentioned but their not going to air the tapes to incite violence against Western countries. Clearly, Al Jazeera has no problem being the voice of the terrorists and fulfilling this role. The US TV and news stations are reporting second hand what Al Jazeera has already done. Not the same thing in my book. I see the point you are trying to make but it doesn't fit the mold of the point I'm making. If the US TV and news stations did air the audio tape as the primary source of the info, then I wouldn't be a big fan of them obviously because their basically delivering the word to kill me and others like me. That goes against my interests. Even so...our news is not the primary news of Arab Muslims like Al Jazeera is so the effect is not the same.
I went to Al-Jazeera's english site, http://english.aljazeera.net/, which was supposed to have been launched a while back, but it is still under construction. It is the case with me -- and I suspect with my fellow posters -- that I have not seen for myself what Al-Jazeera reports and how they characterize that news. The only information I have to go on is how CNN tells me Al-Jazeera reports a thing. Disregarding the potential for CNN to willingly mislead me, they probably cannot convey a very robust image of the sort of news outlet Al-Jazeera is and what sort of spin they put on this or that story. We know they played the audiotape. When they did, did they endorse it, did they condemn it, how was it treated? I don't know. So, I'm a bit reluctant to say Al-Jazeera is bad when I don't have a great sense of what they are doing. So, I'm waiting to see the goods first.
Actually, we are launching a station in the Middle East that will broadcast news from many of are big news boys (except not CNN) for, I think, 6 hours per day.
