I would love to see Mario Elie (aka Junkyard Dog) on the Rockets bench as a assistant coach then maybe Head coach. He is tough, he played the game as a Rocket and can relate to young players, and knows a thing or two about defense. He is a Hou Rocket legend; not in the sense of Dream but very well respected. Of course assuming he is interested. It's just a thought. I hate to bring in outsiders into our team like Van Gundy and who never played the game. He would get NO respect. Like Terry Collins from the Astros. He never played ball and nobody respected him. Where is he now? Exactly. Another ex-Rocket who would get us to the mountain top would be Pat Riley. Assuming Rudy T. isn't coming back. First choice is Rudy T. by far.
Yes but Mario knows how to talk to Players and knows how to urge them on. Larry Smith didn't! Mario is still young enough to relate, Larry is of an older generation of players.
Elie lost love for the rockets after that whole Damon staudamire trade deal that didnt happen. He loved playing well against us after that, and us fans here hated him for that! but i just watched the game 7 on DVD against Phoenix. Swweeeeeet!
i heard that CD is thinkin bout offering mario elie a job back in the houston rockets organization. im guessing assistant coach???
Actually I've heard him on 610 a few times and he said he has no hard feelings towards the Rockets. At the time, he did but he's over it now. He says he still pulls for the Rockets and as a matter of fact, he had a lot of ideas he thought would make us a better team. Almost seemed like he was lobbying for a spot...
What about hard feelings from the Rockets towards Elie? I mean, he quit on the team, threw a hissy-fit, pretty much acted like a pre-pubescent child throwing a tantrum. Why would we want him back?
I'd like to see Elie as an assistant coach. I'd like to see the Rockets develop that tough nasty mentality.
I was thinking the same thing. Is there anywhere to buy the Rockets championship season during playoffs on DVD?
I guarantee you if Les would just listen to the fans for once instead being so damn loyal, the Rockets would already be top contenders in the Playoffs.
Yikes. We might have traded Hakeem for Danny Manning or Ron Seikley. We would have picked Harold Minor instead of Robert Horry. We woudn't have given up Otis Thorpe for Clyde Drexler. We would have brought in Pippen...oh wait, we did. You get the point.
i'm willing to admit that rudy and cd both no more about player's talents than i do. if they think drafting player A is better than the one i wanted, and trading a guy i like for someone i've never really seen before is a good move for the team, so be it.
You can't compare being pissed about being accused of faking an injury to being pissed about being traded or not wanted back when you are in your late 30's. How often do you see a team publically accuse its superstar of faking an injury? That might be the only time ever.
Elie has been trying to land a coaching job for quite awhile now, no takers so far...Elie would be an assistant for the Rockets if they offered him the job.
