Harden is putting a lot of midrange jumper now against the Utah Jazz.

Sigh. Mid-ranged shots only if wide open. Harden can create the needed space. But if you look at Harden's shot charts mid-ranged shots are sparse. Why? They are the least efficient shot in basketball. The Rockets for the second season in a row trail the league in the number of mid-ranged shots by a large margin. Trust me. That will continue as long as Morey is GM. From a statistical analysis standpoint it is what makes sense.

You run a pick and players can knock those shots at a very high % on the curl. And as I say that Hayward hits another one. Shooters practice it all the time and it is a cornerstone for some great players but our offense seems too undisciplined.

I agree. The best playoff defenses work hard to contest 3s and prevent layups and transition buckets. A great midrange game goes a long way towards opening up the offense.

To be fair, Morey isn't so one sided on this. I remember some quote of his where he argued against this "no midrange game" idea.

You know why the best defenses work so hard to defend layups and 3's? Because they are the most efficient shots in the game. The shots good teams want to take. They'd rather give up the midrange jumper for a reason: for most players, it's a terrible shot. As long as we can get open 3's you have to take them. There will be games where they don't fall, but it's still a better shot than an open midrange jumper.

And when have the Rockets not been able to get them?

I don't know, the Bulls game and the Heat games maybe? If the 3 isn't falling I say MOVE IN CLOSER. As I stated an open midrange shot is better than a bricked 3 that leads to a fast break is way, when the 3 is NOT falling.

A bunch of D-leaguers are illustrating what the rockets need. An open midrange shot coming off a pick is practically a layup. The defense has been terrible these last couple of games , criminal actually, but our offensive philosophy is still flawed.

If the Rockets won't shoot the midrange themselves, they at least need to guard it...

Yes we do OP especially from the Center and Power Position. If our bigs could hit that mid-range jumper off the PnR, ohhh weeee we would deadly.

The Rockets live and die by the three, which will be scary in the playoffs considering they haven't been shooting it well.

You do realize that you answered your own question right ? Do you expect either Howard, Asik, or Jones to take and make any of those? Jones is the only one who is capable, but the team has been so discourage from taking those.

Jones is inconsistent from mid range. I do however believe next season he will be much better. Howard really needs to work on his mid range shot. Pimp it will open up a lot for him and this offense.
Yes Morey ball only encourages the 3 point shot but the mid range J needs to be inserted into the offense.

The players get down when they can't stop anyone. They feel the pressure to make every shot, and start missing.
