didnt you know, whether we win the ring or not, it rests on Lin's shoulders. he's the xfactor superstar. thus the highly discussed threads about Lin.
With the Knicks, there was basically no pressure on him to perform. The team FAILED miserably and he came in and we got Linsanity. Last year, especially early, when there were much expectation of him, he failed. He did better the 2nd half of the year, but not by much. He himself said all the expectation got to him. Lin has showed how good he can be, but he simply going into a shell all too often. That's on him to figure it out. No one else.
mchale goes with lin because he played well in the last few games mchale likes to play the player more when they had a good game it is also matchup with heat smaller lineup i actually rather have garcia chasing allen instead of lin lin is terrible fighting over screen
It really really does not work like that. In the aforementioned case what you are suggesting is analogous to discarding black jack strategy in Vegas because you have a "feeling" that the next card is a 4 or under. The odds are about the same. If you have truly great statistical analysis to base rotation decisions on, you will beat "gut feeling" over an entire season. Every season.
You do know that the Rocket's are Morey's organization and Morey is first and foremost perhaps the finest "Money Ball" statistician in the NBA? Statistical analysis dominates the Rockets organization from the RGV to their current statistically based offensive system. Your constant pissy sniping at me is really becoming old. If you do not have anything constructive to add could you just STFU?
No, it really does work that way. It's called coaching. Otherwise, you don't need a coach at all. A robot or someone who can simply read a computer monitor could substitute. At some point it's on a coach to use his eyes and look around...take the wisdom you've attained after years of playing, coaching and evaluating...and put them to use in the midst of a game. Not relying solely on numbers. Numbers are instructive, but they're not the entire story...and they don't obviate coaching.
not true, before the technical on the delay of game, the ball was moving great, harden to lin, gets his defender to bite, then passes it off to bev for a clutch shot. Before that, a beautiful pass to demo that was missed but howard followed it up. after the technical on the delay, lin bad shot by harden, turnover by harden, another bad shot by harden, lebron holds lin for a ray three, horrible shot on a pull up by lin, iso bev brick, lin bites on pumpfake, harden bites on everything, bev caught on wade, wade easy turnaround. but okay put all the blame lin all and also forget how in 22 of the wins in games he has played, had he not gone off or defended a tony parker the team would have lost. =/ " Very underrated"-glorious exiled leader,Comrade Jeff Van Gunthriezkov
14 of the 22 came in the 4th quarter when he was on the court with Harden, Beverly, Dwight and TJones. Look it up on popcornmachine game flow.
Don't have the game footage in front of me, but if that was the sequence of events, then wow CF. Wow.
Wow. Just wow. You do realize that in Phil Jackson's era the largest win differential between the best coach (Phil Jackson) and the worst coach of the era was under five wins? And isn't Jackson perhaps the most successful coach in the modern NBA era? Trust me, having done something similar for a large part of my career, you always go with the winning strategy. The statistics. Anything else will cause you to lose more than is necessary. I believe that that is what McHale did. The safe bet. Side with your boss. Not to mention that McHale's boss is widely admired throughout the NBA, and is viewed by many as the sharpest tool in the shed. Statistics do not give a definitive answer as to what will win a game. It just tells you what to do to win the highest percentage of games.
I agree more with jtr, and I'm also more on the boat with the studies that have shown coaches don't really matter. There are some REALLY exceptional ones, but for the most part, yeah might as well have a machine FOR GAME NIGHTS. The real power of coaching, and its importance, comes from what we don't see on the court at night. Not the X's and O's or even the timeouts and subs at times (tho those can help some)...it's how they manage the players behind the scenes, throughout a whole season. You got a bunch of ppl who have been pampered their whole lives and think of themselves as stars. It's a lot of personalities to manage and form into one cohesive unit who will trust a SYSTEM and each other. To know what to do in a given moment without imploding. I think it was the great Popovich who said that great coaches get out of the way during game time because that's how players taken ownership, and at the end of the day, it's them playing and not the coaches. I honesty believe 90% of coaching is from these philosophies that occur "behind the iron curtain", and Doc Rivers and Pop are great in making their players want to do the right thing and give 110% effort. Is McHale on their lvl? No. But am I going to slam him incessantly for something as subjective as what you're suggesting, and thinking his presence on game nights is a critical determinant of our W/L season record? No. Maybe a game here or there, but over 82 + post-season? Nah...
This obsession with Lin has to stop. It is as if no one else makes mistakes. Just saying that I agree with the above poster.
Morey said in June that he did very well last year, and that the Rockets would have not gotten to the playoffs without him.
This is the way to look at it. I know most of you want to believe we should win every game or else it's a problem with McHale's decision making but the fact is late in games when the pace slows down to a crawl and the defense locks in, the Rockets are not a top tier team. That's what has me so worried about the playoffs, Rockets half court offense against top defenses is atrocious. Then to make matters worse, we have spurts of lackadaisical defense and that is a recipe for disaster in the playoffs. I pray we can flip some internal switch come playoff time but something tells me there's more heart-break ahead.
lol, isnt that what most people on this forum have been saying to his obsessive fanbase ever since they showed up around here?
There wouldn't be any problem if Paulftsk was Lin, he'd do Gabrielle Union nekminit Wade goes into a fat felton style depression/eating binge and Lebron has to go full-cleavland once again
I dont give a damn who he was on the court with. He gets blown by on a regular basis, which forces others to help, which leaves someone open. Happens all the time when this clown is in the game.
