There's no report of drunk driving. He was in a stolen car and fled police. I'm glad it wasn't drunk driving. He could've gotten off with intoxicated manslaughter.

Yeah! I saw her at Mohawk yesterday afternoon. Not really. It's looking like there will be at least 1 more death. Possibly 2. One of the victims went into cardiac arrest at one point.
I'm trying to recall an incident at SXSW remotely as awful as this one, and can't. I've lived in Austin since 1980, and can't remember this bad an accident happening in Austin before due to mad, insane, and possibly intoxicated driving. Not deaths and injuries literally in the dozens. This is a pretty safe city and deserves that reputation, so yeah, I'm stunned. The fellow responsible needs to spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Despite the complaints that SXSW and ACL Fest have gotten too large, they've both been very peaceful with almost no incidents. Even Texas Relay and ROT Rally weekends are relatively incident free. They're certainly annoying times to be downtown if you're not involved, but you certainly don't expect things like this tragedy to happen.
