Today in the ESPN Insider section. "Memphis Grizzlies: Jerry West is employing a novel approach to evaluating draft candidates this year. Assistant coach Tony Barone explains. "We're going to do a better job of putting the players in a position where we feel they have to think about the game," Barone told the Memphis Grizzlies. "We're going to try to put them in situations where they have to make decisions. That's a major issue in the NBA. That's not tied to any regimented IQ. But there is a basketball IQ that comes out. We want to find out more in these workouts." " There's Jerry West for ya!
Deuce, could you elaborate? Does someone not think there is BB IQ or sports IQ, that it is the same as general IQ (Larry Bird and Terry Bradshaw proved this wasn't the case a long time ago), or was it about the Rockets lack of BB IQ except from Yao. What was the context of the post.
DS, that small article/snipet was taken from ESPN Insider's Peep Show section which just takes pieces from local newspaper articles. So they are sidebar kinda things. That's all they had. The reason I wanted to post it is because how everyone on the BB talks about how the Rockets need more players with high "basketball IQ" and in this scenario the Grizzlies are apparently trying to test potential drafted players in ways that would give them a good indication of the type of BB IQ that they have to work in their system. Perhaps they will draft some player that has a higher BB IQ and a little less talent versus someone that is a bit more talented but an idiot.
