I guess it wasn't over the Malacca Strait.

I've never flown them either and they aren't winning me over.

    According to CNN it's 3 objects. 1 at 13 by 18 meters (43 by 59 feet), 1 at 14 by 19 meters and 1 at 24 by 22 meters.

Yes, and I was just responding in general.

With all the traffic pieces like that could've come anytime from ships. I also can't tell from the pics if that is really a couple of large pieces and not many small pieces clumping together.

They had three days to analyze it and announced it as a suspect crash site. I would trust their assessment over your armchair satellite image analysis skills. And they probably have better images too, but is sharing the standard ones with the rest of the world instead of their raw files. It's a weird feeling that it would be a relief to have finally found the wreckage, but at the same time that means no one survived. Hopefully this gives the families some closure. Much better than not knowing.

No need to come in here with attitude...

That being said, many believe the Chinese used high res sat images to find the location, and once they had that, they released lower res to the public. They don't want anyone knowing for sure just how powerful their sats are.

As for the sizes, they reported the dimensions of the three pieces, so I believe they know they are not trash. Doesn't mean they couldn't be large shipping parts, but it's not likely to be trash.

In three days, you're telling me they haven't gotten a closer look? Hell, I could probably have gotten a fairly close look at that in three days had I really wanted to...

That's why everyone seems to be assuming it's legit, or the Chinese wouldn't have released it. They likely were analyzing higher res images and didn't want to release any info until they were sure.

Not sure what to think. If this is true, it puts them in South China Sea, not the Gulf of Thailand where they were said to have been flying over, not over the Malacca Strait or the Andaman Islands where Malaysian military radar supposedly picked it up off near *****et.

Also, they are pretty sizable chunks...if this was the wreckage, it wouldn't correspond with a lot of the reports...It actually just got weirder, if possible. This site also appears to be outside the original flight plan, and they thought the plane had gone West, this looks East of where it disappeared (currents. or radar report is false?).

Huh? It puts them 140 miles away from their supposed route... and depending on when the pictures were taken, water currents and the way the plane was propelled on impact could certainly account for the distance.

I'm not paying attention to all the other theories of the plane supposedly turning, or "sightings" way out west... to me, those were the "weirder", "implausible" scenarios all along.

Satellite image analysis is a probably a very time consuming process especially when you don't know where to look and what exactly to look for (debris can look like anything). The area canvassed is probably several hundred thousand square miles, that's alot of images with a lot of false positive crap to sort through.

Not to sound kooky or conspiratorial but has anyone thought about the aliens angle? What if this plane was abducted? Otherwise this plane wouldn't have just disappeared and left no trace even after a week of searching.

Yes, but if you're coming out with a report, and it's (relatively) that close to you, you should have done your homework and looked at it to make sure.

If you aren't paying attention to the "theories" that the plane went West, you haven't paying attention at all. These haven't been rumors, or internet conspiracy theorists, it was government officials. While they may prove to be incorrect, they still some weight. Especially considering the absence of ANY other information.

Which government? Malaysia? The same people that brought in a shaman to predict where the plane was? The same country that flew the victims family to INDIA instead of Malaysia by mistake?

So, we have all the crazy theories/sightings coming from Malaysian officials... and then we have China satellite imagery showing a possible crash site in the MOST LIKELY LOCATION based on the flight path.

Sorry, I'm going to tend to go with Occam's razor on this one. I know it isn't as "sexy" as the conspiracy theories, but it is the most plausible.

I also think trying to find a plane in the ocean is about as easy as trying to find a needle in a haystack... even with satellite imagery, and multiple countries with SAR teams, it takes awhile.

Pictures were taken at 2:49 on Sunday morning. Less than an hour and a half after it disappeared.

    2.5 knots SE surface current.

I meant to also say that due to whatever event that caused the plane to go down in the first place, that could also account for the 100 or so miles off course it was... in addition to impact propulsion and sea currents.
