I agree with your whole post, Surfguy. Besides the computer guy skit which is hilarious, Falon is totally over-rated. Tina Faye has never even made me smile...and she's the head writer?!?!? Geeze.

Oski, I think Darrell Hammond is not used nearly enough. He's one of the funniest guys on the show but he doesn't get enough time because Falon is in every skit trying to be cute and get cheap laughs by pretending to "lose control" and laugh (ala The Carol Burnett Show). Hammonds Clinton was funnier that Phil Hartmans, RIP. He needs more screen time.

The only good thing about SNL is that in the past when it seemed the show was dead, it always made a comeback. I remember when they brought in Ferrell, Oterie, M Shannon, Hammond etc. I hated the first few shows. Over time, they developed into a great cast as we all know. Hopefully Michaels will surprise us again...

    A few thoughts:

    1. Dan Akroyd simply isn't funny anymore...he hasn't been in a long time.

    2. I still like SNL...there are a few recurring skits I really enjoy.

    3. I'm sad to see Tracy Morgan go...he was my favorite. But I'm not convinced that he didn't have something to do with his limited time before the camera. Brian Fellows just stopped...that was his skit. I'm betting it's not as simple as someone else just wasn't writing parts for him. By the way...Morgan looked pretty emotional saying goodbye for the last time. Man, I wish he wasn't leaving...but am glad he's getting his own show.

    4. That freaking lounge singer skit with Chris Kattan cracks me up...I wish that wasn't his last episode...wish that he would have started using that character earlier. I love how he finishes each bad joke with, "what?? i can't! no!" i was laughing so hard i spit up my drink.

    5. I freaking love Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon...I think the SNL news is better than it's been since...geez...since before I was old enough to watch SNL.

MMax, this might be the first time I've ever disagreed with anything you've said. ;) I think Weekend Update is as weak as it's ever been. Every once in a great while, they say something funny but their delivery is just awful IMO. I think they try too hard. They should really bring back Norm McDonald, his WU's were always hilarious from start to finish. Even when he bombed, he made it funny. I miss him.

I did think that lounge singer skit was great. I loved that drummer that kept playing at the wrong time. It was the best part of the show...beside Beyonce's red dress.

SNL does seem to run in cycles. I remeber a new bunch, including Will Farrell and Daryl Hammond, being brought in to revive the show.

The key to that revision -- pointed out by a number of critics -- was satire. Make fun of politics, famous people, television shows, movies, whatever. Will Farrell was so important to this because he could do a LOT of good impersonations.

The skits may be cute, but they aren't always funny, and don't appeal to a broad audience. Stupid funny stuff -- Mango, Brian Fellows, Irish guys -- are memorable, but not necessarily that funny. Of course, they have a problem now because they don't have many impersonators.

I realize they shied away from politics (Bush) from 9-11 (and the loss of Farrell), but there is plenty of 'safe' satire. Heck -- couldn't you imagine a skit about the recent Texas House events? Skits like Bush "Axis of evil" speech, or celebrities making fun of their own stuff (Walken, Spears) are what gets people rolling on the floor laughing.

They need to get back to their bread and butter -- satire.

Hey, you make it seem like I believe the contrary to this. I said the NEED Hammond and that Parnell needs to go.

Oh, I thought Beyonce looked terrible. It's like her stomach was starting to get into shape, but the little fat that used to be there was added to her thighs or something. I can't explain it. I like curves and all, but Beyonce looked like the cartoon version of J-Lo or something. I mean, her top half is tiny and then she had this huge base. Those pants didn't help, she was wearing them low on her waist, but for some reason it looked like they were pulled up real high. And in that dress, she looked messed up too. She didn't even look symetrical, I swear it looked like she had dents certain spots or something. I want the old Beyonce back.

if you guys want good, funny satire, tune in to the daily show with jon stewart. that show never fails to deliver, and they actually even have a better cast then snl. which is pretty sad, since the daily show is a daily half hour show and snl is a weekly, hour and a half show.

Didn't see this one, but I like the show okay. Tracy Morgan was hilarious, didn't know he was leaving. I think the women on the show now are pretty funny, like Dratch and Poeller. I like Tina Fey, but not the Update. Norm was the best.

I like the bit where Dratch is that dorky high school guy with the tie on. She's funny but under-used. I've seen her stand up. She's very funny. I loved that bit where her and Will Farrell were LOOOVERS.

Sheldon. I agree - that is funny.

SNL always ran in cycles. People forget that the last season with Adam Sandler and Chris Farley was utterly laughless. How many times could you see Farley fall on a table and still laugh? It's the same with this group - they all have a limited number of sketches in them and they've worn them out now.

Don't get me started on Farley. I still remember where I was and what I was doing when my friends called me with the news of his death. Truly depressing, even to this day.

While he was mostly a physical comedian, he was also very quick. I don't think he ever got the credit he deserved as an all around comic, as opposed to just a fat guy that falls all over the place. I loved Bennett Brower the news guy that always used his hands to quote his words.

I'm not a "heartbreaker", I don't "wash properly", I "scare little children", I "pick my scabs with an old high school compass", I "sweat profusely"...

    RIP

Why don't they ever show reruns of the Eddie Murphy and Billy Crystal years. Eddie carried many a Saturday by himself and Billy was an idiot (in a good way).

I enjoyed the Falconer, and Astronaut Jones. TV Funhouse is almost always funny.

Tina Fey admits herself that she isn't the best performer, though if you can see her live she actually can be really really funny. But I do think Fey writes very well. Adam McKay who was the head writer previously is one of the funniest humans alive, so it's a tough act to follow, but I think Fey does a good job, for the most part, writing.

Okay, so maybe I don't "own a toothbrush", or never "had sex with a woman"; I don't even "know how that works".....I can't "reach every part of my body".....I guess the "powers that be" prefer someone who doesn't "frighten small children"...
