Othella "My Fella" Harrington could score the rock.

And that's all I have to say about that.

I still remember Othella putting up something like 14 and 8 for us as a starter in '99 and really thinking he would develop into something. So much for that.

Othella was the better over-all defender but Jones significantly better on the O side.

I actually really liked Othella back in the day, and thought he was one of the better prospects Dawson drafted in that era.

First off- lets not forget that Harrington his first 3 years with the Rockets was playing on a roster that had Hakeem, Barkley, and Kevin Willis among others. Had the Rockets not acquired Barkley, I think we would have had a much different take on Harrington as a Rocket than we do now... the guy was actually pretty darn talented.

Othella had a real crafty lefty game. Had a nice low post game, and i remember really loving his little jump hooks around the rim. He similar in size to Jones, but not near the athlete that Jones is. also was not the fast paced player Jones is, and not nearly as capable of handling the rock.

So other than Othella being the same height as Jones, and being a lefty, I really dont see the comparison. Jones is more of a hybrid power forward/small forward ala Lamar Odom/Josh Smith than he is a traditional low post big man like Othella Harrington.

Not really sure why Harrington never took off with other teams after the Rockets, but I would be willing to bet it would be because his size made it difficult to really play the 5 defensively even though that's really what his offensive game was suited to play, and I do remember a few seasons where he just really really looked like he was about to eat his way out of the league.

Jones plays much bigger, better defense and rebounding. Othella had some post moves but nothing special. Both are good passers. Jones is still the much better player and shows he is learning with something new every game.

What's the point of including Lin in the poll?

Still waiting for the obligatory "If Othella Harrington was our starting power forward, we would be championship contenders" post.

Sorry, I vomited when I read the name "Mo Taylor".

I got to disagree with you on the Mo Taylor comparison. Not to say that Mo Taylor did not have a couple of good years, but was a very different player. He had a much sweater jump shot than Jones but he was not as good as a rebounder. He was stronger than Jones but never played as much above the rim as Jones. The only similarity between them is that they were both 6'9" power forwards with good mobility and decent handles.

I think Jones, because of his build and athleticism will allow him to be a better defender than Taylor ever could have been -- especially if he can bulk up (just as long as he does not bulk up enough as much as Mo Taylor did).

Tinman just does it with more flare, more originality and more love. I award you zero stars for this thread.

Wow, blast from the past. I loved Othella My Fella when he was here, but Jones is already probably as good as Othella ever was, and Jones is a much higher potential player.
