I think he might have a good case for the second team.

IMO, he is one of the best at setting the defensive tempo for his team with his presses.

Reputation helps in these kinds of awards and he is quickly gaining it around the league.

He will have to do this another year before being considered, but I think he can be, his hustle and veracity towards defense is definitely showing to National Media finally. I think especially in the playoffs he will shine, seeing as the playoffs are a time when some teams tend to slow down, and have to start relying on defense more, he will really be center stage, with Howard, on the Rocket's defensive efforts.

In an NBA where Shane always lost out to Kobe...yea never happening.

Its called the "All defensive teams" but in terms of ranking the players they go beyond that and take offense into account...which doesn't make much sense really.

If there were any justice, he'd make the second team. I don't expect justice to prevail.

    Reputation.

Also, keep in mind that Mike Conley won the second team awards last year.

As far as offense, Bruce Bowen has won it in the past. His offense is similar to Beverley's. In fact they both had/have very similar roles.

    Just for clarification....

Saying that he would make the second team? Which PG would make it in front of him? Chris Paul?

...I think that answers the question that the NBA Defensive team (and most NBA awards) are based on reputation rather than ability

Can we name 4 guards who deserve a spot more? Paul has been out. Kobe wont be slotted in his reserved spot. Sefolosha is done.

Honestly not sure there's another point guard I would take over him on the defensive end. Some of that is in the stats, but its easy to see in the flow of the game. The PGs hes covering seem to hesitate, both in shooting and passing the ball off. He's also good for one inexplicable offensive rebound and steal per game.

Beverley got hurt too, he's missed the same number of games as CP3. So Paul's probably in.

Rubio probably gets voted in. Maybe Wall. Tony Allen's probably missed too many games, but Conley might get voted in again. Paul George might be voted in as a guard if the frontcourt positions are crowded.

    Beverley had a decent shot.

the NBA voting tends to go with stats, Pat is a guy who has a lot impacts on the game without stats showing

I would honestly not be surprised. Beverley's getting surprising amount of run this year. Every national announcer raves about his D. Fans generally love the "gets in your grill" defense. And if enough people look at Houston's defensive efficiency rather than points given up, Beverley has a case.

That said, from last year's team, Conley, CP3, and Allen all have good shots of repeating. Bradley's out, but that slot likely goes to Stephensen IMO. Conley's a wild card due to Memphis being out of contention this year. Allen and CP3 should still be in it just for reputation alone.

As far as the PG position goes, I'd say he and Wall are the top defenders.
