"IF" the Texans draft Robinson, I think they should explore trading Brown after Robinson's rookie year or even during this year. Brown is valuable and could get the Texans a 1st and 3rd round pick and that would clear up cap space because they would have an elite left tackle on a rookie contract for 4-5 years and could fill other positions with good proven free agents. But I like your thinking as well. 5 million a year for a dominant tackle that can play both sides is not much to pay at all for the most important unit on the field. Yea it worked out great when the Texans drafted a pass rusher the last time they had a #1 pick and a team in a rebuilding process with a bad offensive line and an offensive minded head coach. And they didn't make the playoffs with Mario and now he's in Buffalo. And can't expect O'Brien to pull the trigger on one of these quarterbacks if he doesn't want to take one of those guys with such a high pick. I prefer Sammy but would be happy if they drafted Robinson.
The talent is there, but taking a RT with the first overall pick in a draft that has a monster pass rusher like Clowney is a bit ridiculous....though it would be better than reaching on a QB that shouldn't be a top 10 pick.
One of the last "Teddy to the Texans" guys has fallen: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-partner="tweetdeck"><p>Here's my post-combine mock. As always, please frame all insults in the form of a team-specific misspelled question. <a href="http://t.co/O9bCWPw5ck">http://t.co/O9bCWPw5ck</a></p>— SI_DougFarrar (@SI_DougFarrar) <a href="https://twitter.com/SI_DougFarrar/statuses/441264833443278849">March 5, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
That mock should make die-hard Teddy Bridgewater fans cry. With him on the Jags having to face Clowney and Watt twice a year I wonder how many times he'll fail to make it through the game.
If Robinson is drafted, I say he plays RT until he plays LT better than Brown. Then you make the switch.

I suspect some of these media vibes come directly from the Texans, perhaps to shake things up between 2-5 and hope for a trade offer that's too good to pass up. With that said, it sure does seem likely that Bridgewater isn't part of their plans at all. Still think you draft the player with the highest upside, since there's no "sure thing". To me that's Manziel or Clowney.
It would definitely be salt in the wound if he becomes as good as some of us "die-hards" think he will be. We'll see.
If he becomes as good as I think he will be, it will be a rough 10-15 years for us. Luck and Bridgewater...ugh
I don't Manziel is in the picture at all. Upside isn't really that high to begin with. Clowney Robinson Mack fringe: Bortles, Bridgewater
It's Clowney, Teddy or trade, IMO. I'd be absolutely floored if any of those other guys were picked without a trade down.
If he gets stuck in Jacksonville, there's no chance he'll become even close to what some of you guys thought he might be. They are a disaster of a franchise that will David Carr him for sure.
Problem is that he has the pocket presence, smarts and accuracy that Carr never had consistently They will run the ball and work the play action
The only player I would like to see 1st over all other than Bridgewater/Clowney is Mack Would be a bit of a shock if we picked him, Robinson or anyone else 1st overall Bortles doesn't have anywhere near the polish to be a top 10 pick let alone a 1st overall
I believe it's become Clowney...and only Clowney. The undersized QB's, and no pick of the crop...just a bunch of potentials.....to be good or busts. Either way, I'll be happy. I just want some Texans Football news. Can't wait for the season.
Your blind faith in him is admirable, but I fear it's terribly misplaced. He's not a game changer, if he gets drafted by the Jags, he'll be seen as a bust and his career will be short.
Guess I'm alone in this, but I think Gus Bradley is going to turn that franchise around. They won't be winning the South anytime soon, but I could see a jump to .500 this year with an actual NFL caliber QB.
I disagree..Gus Bradley showed me a lot in his first year and you can see the culture is starting to turn for the better.
That leaves Derek Carr for the taking in the 2nd Do the Texans pull the trigger? or do they risk and take someone like Garapolo?
