I'm a big time Jeremy fan!!! Just like I'm a big time fan of Pat Bev, TJones, and even Omri Casspi! Why? Because I'm a Rockets fan. As long as Lin is a Rocket, I'll be rooting for him... rooting for him to improve... rooting for him to play to his potential. I have no control whether he's on the team or not, so no sense in spewing hate and giving up on him. I can't believe there is so much controversy over the BACKUP point guard!?
Whoever put down any of the Rockets players are not a real Rockets fan, so don't bother to argue anything with him/her.
Let's Chill with the Lin Hate Every since Lin began his slump, I have felt this incredible need to defend him against the waves of comments telling me that "Lin is a Joke" or "Lin doesn't belong in the NBA." I'm not sure why that is - perhaps it's because of a misguided sense of internet fairness or maybe I just like him because he's Asian. Regardless, I find myself sinking a not-so-insignificant amount of time into this particular endeavor despite poor performances and general antagonism from fellow posters. Magnified by Beverley's excellent stretch of late, Lin's poor play has been all the talk on these forums. Well, "poor" is an understatement when you consider what Lin is capable of as a player. With stupid turnovers and passive play, it is easy to forget that Lin had been playing stellar as recently as the all-star break. This is the same guy who had been winning games for us in the 4th early in the season, the same guy who was averaging almost 50%/40% off the bench. This guy was our Ginobili, our Jamal Crawford, our JR Smith. Players don't go through a stretch like Linsanity if they innately suck and are talentless. So what happened? Is it really rational to believe that a player has regressed that much over the course of one month to the point where he simply cannot return? Is it reasonable to put the blame solely on his shoulders and, without offering a solution, simply demand that he "man up?" When his minutes are slashed to to less than 20 per game and is asked to play outside his comfort zone, is it fair to hate on a young players' lack of rhythm and comfort with fellow teammates? On the flip side, how many promising young players who had put up big numbers under the bright lights for sustained periods have permanently regressed to 12th man without injury or circumstance? If it is a confidence issue, wouldn't the better move be for the team to help him through it instead of benching him indefinitely? Perhaps let him play more minutes and through mistakes in "sure thing" games instead of running Beverley for the full 4 quarters. After all, I think we will all agree that the Jeremy Lin we had at the beginning of the season made everyone better. That Jeremy Lin would make us dominant and a true contender. We need Jeremy Lin back. Everybody has their opinions, but too often reasonable discussion is shut down with name-calling and scrutinizing every mistake as if they were an overwhelming body of proof. Case in point - the moment Lin turns it over, regardless of the context, you are bound to hear three or four posters chime in about how its "here we go again" and "it's time to start Canaan." This type of rhetoric just makes us look bad. I know there is a current atmosphere of hate towards Lin fans, but it is not some kind of irreconcilable difference. We all want the Rockets to contend, and Lin is instrumental if we want to contend this year against the elite teams in a 7 game series. I understand that fans want to be fans, and ultimately nothing we say or do here will make any difference in the way McHale runs the Rockets. My only hope is that we can have rational and civil discourse over a controversial topic like Lin and afford our players the benefit of the doubt before calling for his head. I needed to get that off my chest. Mods, feel free to lock if you hate the idea of yet another Jeremy Lin thread
Seems like both Lin and Casppi getting less minutes. I don't blame McHale. Gotta get ready for the playoffs. Can't keep playing guys hoping they would get out of a slump.
I do feel like the Lin hate goes overboard. Yeah, criticism is deserved at times (I do it at home, on twitter, etc); however, folks go way beyond. Gets silly.
I've seen enough of cfans to know that kneejerk reactions are the norm, but OP is right, this is getting ridiculous. Besides TO's, our biggest weakness is our bench. With Lin (and Asik), we are only stronger.
TLDR... Probably could have gone into the Jeremy Lin is a JOKE thread. But, this is Clutchfans. Certain players become the targets....because of their effort....ability vs contracts....and fans.
you mean Lin Only Fans. There are posters who thought Lin had a good game today. The delusion is Walking Dead like. If he continues his downward trend, then he's not instrumental. Was he instrumental last year? we played against an elite team today, the defending champion, it's not encouraging how he played.
Unfortunately that thread is not really conducive for any kind of discussion. You got people who have made up their minds telling each other how dumb the other side is and cherry-picking arguments left and right. Any moderate message gets buried six feet under.
ummm....re-read what we both wrote..."a few" He had a nice weakside block....and a few good pickups. I mention the pick ups, because he is normally terrible at sticking to a man....always trying to help out way too much, leaving his man wide open. Other than that, he has been awful.
Lin played like utter crap today. there's no opinion in that. Anyone who watched the game saw it. If they want to vent their frustrations at the other posters who claim he's better than derrick rose, they have their bobby brown given rights to do so
I absolutely agree that Lin needs to play better, and if he plays the way he does, he will be helping no one. Still, I have my doubts about how we would fare in 7 games against Miami, Indiana, OKC, and even teams like the Clippers. I think a good and confident Lin is the push we need. Of course we could still beat elite teams, as evidenced by today, but I would be much more confident if we had our early season Lin.
Let's take a trip down memory lane... http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=156908 The parallels are hilarious lol
