No. FA are available for playoffs have to be signed before 1st March. After 1st March, the FA are not able to play in post season. Only until the end of regular season
Incorrect. Players must be waived before March 1st to be eligible for the playoffs, but they can be signed up until the playoffs(to be on the team's playoff roster).
No chit. I guess they couldn't come to an agreement before the deadline, but a day or so later, no problem.
I'm sure they were playing hardball with him and they couldn't agree on a number, but wow. To release him a day late is just hilarious to me. At the end of the day, they really had no obligation to release him at all so I guess he valued his money more than latching on with a contender. His bad.
I think they told him he either agrees a buyout, or they waive him after the deadline. He played hardball and chose to keep all his money and forego the playoffs. Fair enough.
- One factor here is now Charlotte has more leverage in future buyout negotiations. If they make a threat, then players and their agents will take the threat seriously. - Hard to judge who is being unreasonable here because we don't know what each side's offer is. Gordon likely is unwilling to give up much at all since the market interest in him seems to be minimal.
Uh Charlotte is in right,seriously dude did nothing for them,if he really wanted to go to a contender he would have accepted an offer ASAP,and he sucks now he would have not helped this team at all.
The unreasonableness is how players (and agents) moving forward will respond to Charlotte's hardball tactics. They won; they may well lose bigger.
If a free agent refuse to sign with the Bobcats because the team would refuse to buy them out in the future and allow them to sign on another team then I am sure Bobcats don't want that player anyway.
Personally, I don't care about the fairness or unfairness of this eligibility catfight. My question is whether Ben Gordon can help us get to the playoffs this year and be a viable piece for next year. He started out as a feisty court leader and shooter, but what is he now? Is he worth sacrificing one of our young players like Canaan or Hamilton or Smith?
I'm very interested in hearing the real reason why Gordon was waived one day after the deadline to make a playoff roster. Clearly, the Lolcats were sending a message. Either way, I'm fine with "missing out" on Gordon. I was open to waiving Smith and signing him just to get a backup 1/2 that can shoot the ball for depth purposes, but the fact of the matter is he probably wouldn't have played much at all. Especially, with the emergence of Hamilton.
The only reason to sign Ben now would be to give some guys some rest before going into playoffs without losing team playoff positioning. We could give the new guys some burn but it might cost us a win (or not).
Could he be signed with a team option for next year? Obviously, he wouldn't be able to play for us this playoffs but I'm curious if that is allowed.
