My car stereo will usually pick up a station out of Beaumont, The Big Dog 106.1, which is a heavy metal format similar to the format of Z-Rock (from the early 90's). They play a wide range of 80's and 90's heavy metal songs, alot of which I had completely forgotten about. So the purpose of this thread is to try to revive (and remember) some of the great metal bands (mind you, not grunge) from the past 15 to 20 years. Some of the songs I've heard recently are Metallica (One), Anthrax ("I'm The Man"), Prong ("Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck") and Queensryche ("Silent Lucidity")...just to name a few. Got any personal favs?
Megadeth - Blood of Heroes, Holy Wars Metallica - Fade to Black, Master of Puppets Slayer - Angel of Death, Chemical Warfare Sepultura - Beneath the Remains, Inner Self
i can sort of pick up that station in my radio. it is faint though. I was going to post a thread similar to this but I never got around to it.
Now I've got to go search for that station. KLOL and all the ****-rock they play between the good stuff really gets on my nerves.
Here it is... Big Dog 106 Their page is pretty weak...I usually can't catch the station downtown and westward, but here in Clear Lake and surrounding areas, it comes in somewhat clear. They definitely play a harder mix of music than KLOL. I sure do miss ZROCK!
NFS. I don't recognize half these bands they play. Puddle of Mud. Three Doors Down, Nickelback, etc.. 93.7 plays the same 10 songs over and over.
Motley Crue: Shout at the Devil/Wildside Judas Priest: Living after midnight/Breaking the Law/Some Heads are gonna roll/ Ratt: Lay it down/Round and Round/Lack of Communication Posion: Look what the car dragged in/ Dokken: Breaking the Chains/Alone Again/Dream Warriors Iron Maiden: The Trooper/Powerslave/Run to the Hills/Aces High/Number of the beast/ Metallica: Master of Puppets/Sanitarium/ Ozzy: Crazy Train/Bark at the Moon/ AC/DC: Shook me all night long/Back in Black/Hell's Bells/For those about to rock That's just off the top of my head. This while answering questions on Melville.
Oh momma, are TheFreak and Rockets2K ever gonna clean up on this thread!! Let's see, my heavy metal CDs include: Sepultura - Chaos A.D., Roots, Beneath the Remains, Arise Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power, Cowboys from Hell, The Great Southern Trendkill, Far Beyond Driven Metallica - Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning Megadeth - Peace Sells But Who's Buying Anthrax - Among the Living Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance Judas Priest - British Steel Ozzy - The Blizzard of Ozz Ozzy - Diary of a Madman Black Sabbath - Paranoid Number of the Beast - Iron Maiden AC/DC - Back in Black, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap Some people don't consider these next CDs heavy metal, but I have seen them classified as such: Tool - Undertow, Aenima Soundgarden - Superunknown, Badmotorfinger Nirvana - In Utero, Nevermind Alice in Chains - Dirt, Facelift Pearl Jam - Ten Temple of the Dog - Temple of the Dog Mother Love Bone - Stardog Champion Stone Temple Pilots - Core Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream, Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness (don't believe me, listen to "Zero") Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin I-IV Basically any songs from these albums will do!
Dude Manny, hell of a list, but you need MORE Black Sabbath! Okay, seriously, the first, self-titled Sabbath album totally rocks. A definite must-have for anyone who even remotely likes Black Sabbath.
Yea, Lynus, I know. BS's first album has been on my wish list for like over 2 years now, lol. I'll get it someday, but right now I can't stop getting jazz CDs.
How can any thread on heavy metal not mention MOTORHEAD. No Remorse is one of the greatest compilations of all time. I also like early Iron Maiden (Iron Maiden, Killers and The Number of the Beast), early Metallica (Kill Em All and Master of Puppets) and some Megadeth (Peace Sells and So Far, So Good, So What). My favorite Black Sabbath album is Master of Reality. Soundgarden isn't metal, but they did an absolutely killer cover of Sabbath's Into the Void (albeit with different lyrics).
Oh ****. You are exactly right, sub! I can't believe that I forgot "Ace of Spades" and "1916" as well as their self-titled album! Once again, my mind, musically, has been on jazz of late.
I'm gonna stay out of this, except to say that Led Zeppelin shouldn't be on any of these lists, imo. Now I'm going to go put on one of their albums.
Some of my fave Heavy Metal CD's; Queensryche- Operation Mindcrime Tesla- Mechanical Ressonance Scorpions- Rockers and Ballads Dio- Holy Diver Mr. Big- Lean Into It White Lion- Mane Attraction Winger Whitesnake
Sabbath may have invented metal, but Zepplin was their inspiration. That, imo, is reason enough to consider Led Zepplin metal. Please keep in mind that for all practical purposes, I do agree that Zep really isn't metal, but I gladly consider them as amongst the founders of the genre.
Megadeath - Duke Nukem Theme, Kill the King Children Of Bodom - The Trooper, Hate Me, Hatebreeder Metallica - Four Horseman Judas Priest: The Ripper Iron Maiden: Aces High Running Wild: Mordor sepultra - refuse resist Nightwish - red light in my eyes part II Ozzy: Crazy Train In Flames - minus Sentenced - Drown together Nile - Black Hand of Set Primal Fear - Cold Day in Hell Suicidal Tendencies - Nobody Hears ACDC: Thunderstruck Highway to Hell, Hells Bells
Most people credit Metallica with inventing metal. I believe the old stuff is kinda metal, and I think Metallica helped shape metal into what it is today.
