"The Rockets need to get more out of Mo Taylor, which they're starting to get. I think they're probably a year away from really being a playoff factor. They should have some cap room next summer when Olajuwon comes off their books. I'm sure they'll make a run at Webber, too." -- ESPN's David Aldridge in his weekly chat. ------------------ humble, but hungry.

Personally, I think we have a very poor chance of landing C Webb. 1. There are a lot of teams out there who will break the bank for him and will be capable of easily doing just that. I think our cap space is overly inflated by the media and certainly here at CC.net. Mooch will eat up some cap to keep him. Shandon may want his share now and not wait til next year(end of 2001-2002 season. Although several people (including me) have speculated that Matt Bullard's media career will be in full swing by next October and he will not return, Bull has given serious thought to maybe not retiring after all. CD/RT will roster him at $2M without even thinking about it. Hopefully, we will finally face the fact that our biggest hole to fill next year will be a servicable starting center. Cato is NOT our longterm pivot man. We will need to do some serious shopping/trading here. If it is trading we will eat up some more, because you know CD/RT will be after someone of higher calibre than what Cato can net us in a trade. This all will cost us available cap space. 2. If C Dubya wants to get into a longterm situation with a team, and chooses to go with an emerging and exciting, young team ... why doesn't he stay where he is? If he wants to get to a major market, why would he opt for Houston? (I know we are the fourth or fifth market in the country, but you know and I know that we are not treated that way by the media (especially the sports media), and even less by the NBA media circles. 3. C Dub will want something other than a plaintive call by his summer buddies (Francis,Mobes), or a close Texas relative. He will want assurances that this franchise is ready to contend and will fit him into anygame plan. The fact that Maurice will be gone next fall will be due largely to the fact that Power Forwards are not a big priority as evidenced by our schemes this season. This is not a shot at Rt. Not a confirmation that we are single dimensional in offensive or defensive sets. Just that traditionally we were a center superstar oriented team for a long time. Everything went into the middle. We had a brief flirtation with an undersized power forward in Charles. But he made his moves off of a career experience of knowing how to adapt to almost anyone's game. He used intimidation, inexplicable slow posts, and even demanding the ball when he should have been the second or third choice. We are a team of backcourt focused gameplans. I am not saying it has to be that way. Just that why would Webber choose us over the Blazers, Spurs, Heat, or even the Pups who perennialy have frontcourt loaded gameplans?
Because the Blazers, Spurs, and Pups? have PF already. Heat is cap strapped. ------------------ The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. And if someone asks me why i didn't get more meat, ill just say, "Oh, you mean this?" and pull out a big piece of meat from inside the blob of potatoes, where ive hidden it. Good magic trick, huh?
Personally, I don't think that CWeb will go anywhere. He's gonna stay in Sacramento, and as much as I wish he were a Rocket, I think the NBA is better off with him as a King. Sacramento has done good things for Webber too. Remember the thuggish CWeb of before? Sacramento was a new start for him. He's got an up and coming team dedicated to him right now and he gets plenty of attention as it is. I think Webber kindof owes it to Sacramento to stay. He didn't intend to when he got there, but it's made him a better person, a better player and a bigger star. ------------------ "I am who I am, who I am, well who am I?" -- Dave Matthews Band "Dancing Nancies"
Forget Webber, next year the Rocks are going after literally the biggest free agent, Thomas Hamilton. ------------------ Ceo of the Walt Williams fan club. Web site coming soon atheistalliance.org
