Other than Dwight Howard, is Morey any good at chasing free agents?

Granger is garbage now..doubt there was legit serious interest in getting him..dont think the clippers were a good choice for him especially after reddick is back.

    My 2 cents.

    1. Surprised at the number of people responding seriously to such an obvious troll thread.

    2. Surprised no one mentioned the super bestest, awesomenest FA acquisition of Morey era. Which of course was his signing of one Jeremy Lin. Jeremy Lin signing >>> every other FA signing in the history of history.

I think it's probably more that Granger wanted to join the clippers, rather than Morey failing in the chase.

Other than landing the biggest FA of the past 5-7 outside of Lebron James, is Morey any good at landing FAs?

Danny Granger SUCKS. There is a reason Indiana dumped him, Philadelphia released. He isn't a good basketball player anymore.

I think Morey is a failure at signing FA. These are his FA signings:
    Mike Harris (career backup)
    Steve Francis (over the hill)
    Bobby Jones (career backup)
    Justin Williams (career backup)
    Loren Woods (career backup)
    Brent Barry (over the hill)
    Von Wafer (success)
    James White (career backup)
    Trevor Ariza (Eh)
    Pops Mensah Bonsu (career backup)
    Will Conroy(career backup)
    Garrett Temple(career backup)
    Brad Miller(Injured)
    Ish Smith(career backup)
    Antonio Anderson(career backup)
    Marcus Cousin(Who?)
    Marqus Blakely(Who?)
Jeremy Lin(probably one of his best FA signings)
    Jeff Adrien(career backup)
Samuel Dalembert(started while he was here)
    Greg Smith(career backup)
    Courtney Fortson(career backup)
    Earl Boykins(played well here)
    Carlos Delfino(played well here)
    Omer Asik(played well)
    Scott Machado(career backup)
    James Anderson(career backup)
    Patrick Beverley(success)
Tim Olbrecht(don't think he played one minute)
    Aaron Brooks(good signing)
    Omri Casspi(eh)
    Reggie Williams(failure)
    Marcus Camby(injured)
    Ronnie Brewer(career backup)

Overall I can't say that Morey has been a success as a FA signer. He has just missed way too many times on too many players. The only guys I can say had a modicum of success here were Carlos Delfino, Jeremy Lin (kinda), Von Wafer, Samuel Dalembert, Trevor Ariza (a little hesitant to put him here), Patrick Beverley, and then Asik.

I've seen no good indication that he much wanted Granger, so I don't think you can put him on the list of guys who stole our iPads.

There are two reasons we haven't signed a lot of free agents.

Before the Harden trade, we were a .500 team. Which big time free agents want to go to a .500 team, with the possible exception of NY or LA?

As for vetran free agents like Granger, most of them want to go to contenders. If you ask most people, including NBA people, outside Houston who the contenders are, they will say Spurs, Thunder, Pacers, Heat, and probably Clippers.

If the Harden trade would not have go down,Howard would not sign here and we would wait till 2015 to get a Max player,So it was really luck how things changed here so fast.

I love how you conveniently left out Dwight Howard.

Also I love how you completely left out salaries as well seeing as though only 6 of the players listed WERE NOT minimum salary players signed to a role as the 10th - 15th man in the rotation.

How did DM let Dumars steal Charle V and Ben Gordon!?

Point being for every good free agent contract, there are a couple dozen crappy ones that are given out...

As teams are excercising expensive buyouts, we're in a position to scoop up the deals.... curse DM and his low investment high return ways! ;)

    Stromile Swifts former contract, anyone?

Good to see that Carl Herrera has finally had the wool rug pulled from out from under his eyes.

Morey's constant securitization of players is reaping what he has sown - which is that GM Larry Bird in hand is worth two Reggie Bushes.

"Ring chaser" veteran free agents have often been signed by and contributed to title winning teams.

For example, when Miami got together, they signed Haslem and Mike Miller, and then added the likes of Shane Battier and Ray Allen in subsequent seasons. The Celtics. The most recent Celtics title team made use of James Posey and PJ Brown in key roles. Ron Artest joined the Lakers after showering with Kobe.

So far, Morey has not attracted similar ring chasers. Perhaps it is due to Houston not being seen as a true contender.

To fairly compare you have to list other GM's signings. Putting up a list of names with no frame of reference does not allow for objectivity.

Perhaps if we compare him to Sam Presti?
    Mike Wilks
    Eddie Gill
    Ronald Dupree
    Steven Hill
    Nenad Kristic
    Shaun Livingston
    Kevin Ollie
    Ryan Bowen
    Mike Harris
    Michael Ruffin
    Mike Wilks
    Antonio Anderson
    Mustafa Shakur
    Royal Ivey
    Robert Vaden
    Derek Fisher
    Hasheem Thabeet
    Daniel Orton
    Andy Rautins
    DeAndre Liggins
    Walker Russel
    Ryan Gomes
    Diante Garrett
    Royal Ivey again

Compared to Sam Presti, Morey looks pretty good.

If I tell you a guy is successful at a major part of his role 40 percent of the time you might tell me he sucks. However, if that same person is a major league hitter he might be the greatest of all time.
