Michael Jordan isn't 30. Chandler Parsons isn't an all-star Chandler Parsons IS going to get paid, and soon. Is he worth $8-10million dollars to this team? What if we had Granger at less than that? Is a fully recovered Granger a better player than Parsons for this team? Frankly, IF we got Granger, and he was here for 2 (or more) years, then it allows Morey to play the field with Parsons, and see what his market value is before deciding what to do. Classic Morey, would not surprise me to see Granger come here if for more than this season, or go elsewhere if for only the rest of this year.
I get what you are saying, and of course, me bringing up Michael Jordan was my feeble attempt at humor. My point is that it doesn't matter that Chandler is not a star. He's our glue guy. Could Granger be that glue guy? Possibly. Could Granger be a star again? Unlikely. I just wouldn't be willing to break apart what we have with the current state of the Rockets. I agree that Morey does things out of the blue that we'd never expect, and that it's rare that he pays role players after they peak; but I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that Morey pays Chandler. He's already become an icon in Houston, and he's proven to be very important to the teams success based on the few times he has missed games.
If there is a chance at getting Granger, you do it. We need all the experienced vets we can get if we're looking at a deep run this year. I still think Granger has a lot of game left IMO.
When I (pariah) get excited about a potential Rockets acquisition, it *almost* never happens. If I had stayed away from the site just a bit longer, I wouldn't have thwarted our plans. Sorry, Rockets fans. Sorry, robbie380, for the failed attempt at communication.
The benefits of Granger and Hamilton is that they are both interchangeable, but it would make more sense having Hamilton listed at SG and Granger at SF. Thanks for pointing that out to me. I never even thought of that Shasta, but that is a great point.
He is still a GREAT defender. Not nearly the player he was before but a bench of Hamilton and granger would be solid.
Woah, that's crazy if true! I was just going off ESPN http://espn.go.com/nba/team/roster/_/name/hou/houston-rockets Of course, they have DMo weighing only 2lbs more than Harden (220 vs. 222) lol
the ONLY reason I would be hesitant to drop Casspi is b/c of locker room/chemistry issues. As a player? worthless.
This board would go into a meltdown for the wrong reasons. Granger will have the ball in his hands and that's a no no for some...
We should def try to get Granger on the team. Waive Casspi, if not Garcia. Granger has proven he can score off the dribble, penetrate to the basket, and have the ability to finish. Casspi and Garcia......well they've ended up just being spot up shooters. And inconsistent at that. Not to mention Granger can be an option when things tighten up in the 4th quarter. Again, Casspi and Garcia cannot. His size makes him flexible at the 2,3,4 spots. Casspi and Garcia, no. Think Granger can be the type of acquisition that boosts the team's already-high confidence during this streak, and into the home stretch. Regardless of how he's performed so far this season.
FWIW, here is Jonathan Feigen: https://mobile.twitter.com/Jonathan_Feigen/status/438414363796312064?screen_name=Jonathan_Feigen
Ya. I saw that yesterday, and Feigen usually has a good feel for things; but I honestly can't imagine Morey not making a play for Granger. Even given his diminished play this season, the chance that he works himself back into form would seem like the type of risk Morey might take. Don't forget, Morey loves a bargain, and adding Granger on a two year deal could at best be a chance to add a borderline star on the cheap. The downside seems fairly low. I would hate to see a renewed Granger on the Spurs.
Only thing I can try to guess is that Morey was planning to go after him but the players wanted him to stay pat and not have to cut any of their teammates to make room. Of course I could be 100% wrong!
Guys he has been really really bad since he can back from his injury... This isn't the Danny Granger that you want on your team.
he will go to whichever team offers him the most money. nba free agents follow this pattern almost every time: 1) who will offer the most money? 2) if money is the same, which team gives me the best chance to win? 3) if money is the same and all suitors are competitors, who will offer the most PT/FGA's so i can earn my next contract? 4) if all 3 are the same, which city has the best nightlife? out of the teams listed, the bulls and clippers can only offer the minimum. it is also believed that the heat would rather choose caron bulter after he is bought out, and that the miami players dont want granger. that leaves us and the spurs, but lets look at miami anyway: teams & most they could offer as seen here http://data.shamsports.com/content/pages/data/salaries/exceptions.jsp#chicago 1) houston - $2,652,000 2) miami - $3,183,000 3) san antonio - $650,000 spurs are clearly out as per rule #1 of nba free agents. miami would be the first choice for rule #1 and 2, but if bad blood causes them to go in a different direction, then we are left as the winner of the granger sweepstakes. hopefully miami goes with caron butler. it will be just us remaining, unless DM decides to only offer the minimum, in which case the bulls, clippers, and spurs are back in the hunt. but if DM really loves granger, he will spend the extra mil to blow those other team's offers out of the water and make it between us and miami. personally i think its gonna happen, and i'd also like to keep an eye out for a SG and C that get waived, we could cut some dead weight to make room.
