This February, James Harden is averaging 29 points, 3.9 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 2.1 steals per game. He's shooting 48.9% from the field, 44.6% from the 3, and 91.9% from FT while going there 10 times a game for a TS% of a whopping 67.2%! His team is 8-1 and clearly the hottest team in the West. I think his only competition statistically is Durant but his team is only 5-4 this month. The Rockets also had a lot of national exposure this month with the ESPN/TNT games and having two All-Stars. Hopefully he has a big game against the Clippers tonight and solidify it. *KNOCK ON WOOD* When is the last time a Rocket has won player of the month? Has to be Yao or T-Mac right? EDIT: Looked it up. It was Yao in January 2008. T-Mac has never won it with the Rockets. Before Yao, the last Rocket to win it was Hakeem in February '95 when it was the NBA player of the month not by conference. Needless to say, this would be a big accomplishment.
I can't believe T-Mac never won it. Even during the 22 game winning streak? Anyway, I forgot tonight was the last game of the month for the Rockets. A 9-1 record would have to clinch POTM honors for Harden unless Dwight splits the vote.
If James has a big game in a win tonight then the he probably will be a lock to win player of the month.
I don't even think they have to win. They'd be 8-2 which is still a better record than anyone in the West except Dallas. Nowitzki doesn't have the stats though. So unless the Rockets just get blown out while Harden has a terrible game on national TV, he's clearly the best candidate. Again, *KNOCK ON WOOD*.
Up until a couple games ago Dwight was averaging something like 24/13 on the month. I was thinking he had a good shot but Harden's flipped a switch last few games. Now, just gotta look good against the Clips. Go get it James.
True. They have given co-POM before for teammates of a team who had an exceptionally hot month. Lebron-Wade in '11 and Pierce-Walker (LOL!) in '02. This would be ideal!
Harden went nuts in February last year too. It's good to see his 3P% climbing back to the norm. Let's hope the nagging injuries are behind him and he stays healthy through March, April and the Playoffs this year.
Only problem is that Durant is averaging 33.6 ppg, 48.4% from the field, 7.7 rebounds, 7.2 assists, 1.2 steals. Don't sleep on the month Blake Griffin has had either; 30.7 ppg, 55.8% from the field, 10.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists. Harden is certainly in the running though with a big game tonight.
Here is Dwight's stats: 22.8 pts, 13.1 rebs, 2 assists, 2.67 blocks, 1.1 steals 64.4 FG%, 65.9 TS% Now that I look at it, he also deserves it. HOW SWEET IT IS! We truly have two super stars!
He is definitely a candidate. Hasn't he had like 2 triple doubles (and almost another one last night) in the past 3 games or something like that?
True, but traditionally they look at team records a lot for POM and both of those teams have 4 losses this month.
Not if the team's record is taken into consideration. The T'Wolves finished February at 5-6. You can't give POTM to a guy on a losing team.
It's actually 5-4. OKC is also 5-4 and Clippers are 6-4. Kevin Love's stats: 34 pts, 14.1 rebs, 4 assists, 48.7 FG%, 41.5% from 3, .642 TS% What a ridiculous month in the West...
You're right. I was just looking at the games that Kevin Love played. So you could say Kevin Love is 5-4 Those two losses actually help Love's case.
