What everyone else said about protien and carbs. Try eating a big high protien breakfast (lots of egg whites), a big high protien lunch (boneless skinless chicken breasts) and a protien shake for dinner. Don't eat after 7pm. Drink lots of COLD water throughout the day. Don't chug it in one sitting, sip it all day long. And excersise!
All you have to do is do something fun to get you sweating. I hope you know that when you sweat you lose fat. Not a joke, in the past 2 months I started teaching my cousin how to play basketball. His 15 years old and was 150 pounds. Now we both play it for fun and he now weights 125. I don't know what kind of stuff he would eat after playing basketball. But I think it was just all the sweating he got from playing. You should try it. Is like a fun exercise program that works.
That's all you need to know. Change your diet and exercise together, not one but BOTH. That's the only way.
You have to build yourself into a routine. If you try to start running for 20-30 mins every day you'll hurt yourself because unused muscles need a couple of weeks to get back into shape. I don't really go for diets per say. I eat a turkey sandwich with no fat mayo at lunch and dinner and then don't eat again until I go to bed around 4am usually. I get up about 10 and either go running for a bit or do a pushup/crunch routine. I've dropped about 12 pounds so far in the last month and maintained my party lifestyle. I just switched from drinking beer to drinking wine or vodka instead.
