I don't know how anyone could possibly answer anything but turnovers. This team is SOOOO bad at holding on to the ball. Especially Harden and Lin. What makes the turnovers even worse is that Hardens ego takes a hit and he won't hustle back on defense. As far as Lin goes, I've never seen him turn the ball over and not run straight to the ref and b****. Usually leading to a fast break dunk on the other end. Ultimately this falls on McHale. He has to do something more than "Come on guys. No more turnovers! Let's take care of the ball!" They are obviously tuning him out. How about this...if you get your 4th turnover of the game, you are done for the night. May sound a bit extreme, but I bet Popovich would do something like this if the Spurs had a turnover problem as bad as the Rockets do.
Turnovers are bad, but I'm not sure they are our biggest weakness. In the NBA, out of the 10 teams who turn the ball over the most, Us, OKC, Golden State, and Phoenix are all there. So turnovers aren't the best way to determine success.
Not all turn overs are created equal. Offensive fouls and other violations aren't any worse than a missed shot because it stops the ball so there are no fast break opportunities. Dribbling the ball off your foot and intercepted pass in the half court are terrible since they almost always produce points on the other end.
The difference between the top 5 defenses and the Rockets is defensive rebounding. We're already a top 5 offense despite our turnovers.
we have no 3 point specialists on the team..we shoot alot of 3s but we don't make alot. and most of them are open shots..shooting is our biggest flaw..and also our 1st and 2nd quarter defense.idk why we wait til the 3rd and 4th quarter to begin playing good defense
1. Better overall team defense and switch defensive styles, sometimes trap PnR, Switch, fight under/over the screen. We are too predictable on screen coverage 2. More production from the 2nd unit, the Casspi, Asik, Dmo, Lin, and Harden. Tough to get points out of that lineup when forced into half court offense. 3. Maintaining large leads, it's as if we expect big runs
By far and away the biggest "flaw" is that the Rockets are functioning with 3 new starters. That much of a roster shake up takes time to gel. They can become an elite defensive team. But the defensive systems employed by NBA teams require that every player is on the same page all of the time. That takes time to come to fruition. The can even become a better offensive team. That too requires "seasoning".
My thoughts exactly. I feel like the performances Harden has sort of overshadow his turnovers. Meanwhile, it's such a glaring issue for Lin since he's not really performing at a high level at the moment. And boy oh boy, our bench is pretty bad. Though, I like the addition of Hamilton. Adds some much needed athleticism to that second unit. Having two 7-footers in Asik/DMo (I like when one of them are on the court, but it's tough to watch when both are) and then a turnover-prone Lin along with Casspi? It can look atrocious at times. I hope over time the bench will mesh a little better. I feel like we still need more athleticism on our bench, though. Or maybe a bonafide scorer. I cringe every time we bring our bench in with a 10+ point lead because I know it's bound to dwindle.
1. At this point in the playoffs I would say Lin could be a problem if he is turning the ball over too much & not playing with confidence. I was always for keeping brooks around because he's PROVEN to be able to run a offense in playoffs, Lin hasn't shown that yet. Last year he was hurt and everyone played bad the whole game. But Hamilton seems like a good pickup so hopefully Lin is ready to play solid. We don't need home runs out of him just base hits. 2. Jones is going to be a problem, he is not giving Howard neigh space to work, his man is at the point where they don't care about guarding him anymore and they just hang out in the paint to stop harden drive or help on Howard. When jones gets the ball now outside of the paint he never looks to shoot only to pass to a knee player. He a only efficient if he's getting a dunk or running the floor 3. I'm cool with everyone else in our 8-9 man rotation as of now. #1 can be fixed but #2 can't be fixed this year unless motet finds a stretch 4
