A drop from 792p to 720 is about the biggest non-headline ever.

As for the possibility of a bump to 900p? If so, it better run super-smooth. Resolution bumps aren't worth sacrificing framerate for unless you're getting to the native resolution of the screen... in this case 1080p for nearly everyone who cares at all about next-gen systems.

It matters to people who own the other system.

Like Drex was saying, it ain't going to matter much. Whether at 792 or 720, it was still going to be scaling up to 1080. That being the case, it's going to be functionally impossible to tell the difference while playing the game. Sure, in still comparison screens maybe, but not in the thick of gameplay.

In other words: big whoop. I don't think anyone on either side of the console debate is really going to care. And if they do, they shouldn't.

    Some people here are funny...

"MS sucks because their console costs more!"

"MS sucks because they dropped the price of their console!"

I watched a video on IGN yesterday where they were saying the resolution issues the XBone is having are because 3rd part developers are not yet really digging down into the full potential of the system. They said that in a year from now when developers start to work out how to really make games for the system these resolution differences won't be an issue.

They also said that right now, these resolution differences aren't a huge problem in terms of playing great looking games.....but the perception of consumers is being effected by them, and therefore it is an issue for the XBone and it's ability to sell.

I thought all of that was interesting. Maybe a few of you who know more about the Xbones makeup can shed more light on this.

I'm dying to get a decent game to play now. I need to get better broadband put on for Titanfall coming out.

What I find funny is the resolution thing is all of the sudden the big topic,

this topic was old people, it was DVD vs Bluray old. bluray is obviously better but people really don't give a damn now because convenience is more important.

That's why the big winner is STREAMING. I never buy DVDs or Bluray unless I really really want a high resolution and high audio (DTS HD) version of a movie.

That being said, I've played both new systems, I should have tried playing the PS4 more at CES, but I was busy checking out the other tech.

I'm still pretty happy with my 360, games are cheap, I have all my streaming apps. I got my street fighter 4 and COD and Mass Effect, I'm good.

Titan fall is coming to 360 too.

I've told people to hold off buying the XBone. There's just not real reason to buy either next gen system yet. I got it just because I could afford to. I've been playing my 360 more lately tho.

On the Bluray vs DVD, you're 100% spot on. I have only ever bought DVDs. Got my first Bluray the other week and even on my 51 in Samsung that I probably sit a little to close to...I could not tell any difference at all.

I can completely understand why people want the highest resolution they can possibly get, and I would guess that it's frustrating for game developers that this is even being talked about. I can see why scaling but the resolution in favour of using the power for other areas of game play would be common place, but when people piss and moan about the resolution not being turned up all the way....it's not just a marker they have to meet.

CBOAT is being weird lately. Think he is just putting out BS to bash MS now or something. He's also talking about the alpha textures being final, which seems ridiculous at this point.

Unlike the past, I'm pretty sure (say...90%) this is NOT true. It *might* happen if Respawn can't fix the framerate problems (and going 720p will magically fix that), but that seems doubtful.

Hey, quit stealing my lines! ;)

If you cant tell a DVD movie from Blu-ray, I think an eye exam is in order.

The "3rd party developers just need to figure it out" thing is a factor, but people are really going overboard with it (also, it probably has more to do with MS figuring out how to utilize the hardware, not 3rd parties directly).

The reason the system is struggling with 1080p is because its hardware just isn't configured for supporting that resolution very easily. I mentioned this earlier in the thread, but when AMD puts out GPUs to support 1080p, they have 32 ROPs (and more memory bandwidth for that matter). XBO's GPU has 16. IIRC, an AMD engineer mentioned a ratio for CUs, bandwidth, and ROPS, and the XBO GPU wasn't "balanced" correctly (i.e., some of its power will be pointless because its "weakest" links will prevent games from using some of that power).

Figuring out the software isn't going to magically give the system 32 ROPs or a constant stream of 170 GB/s in memory bandwidth.

OK, have some Japanese PS4 sales:
    http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=774695
Seems to be around 320K. Actually not too bad, and better than I was expecting given some of the reports. It is being reported that Japan got a shipment of 350K, so that's pretty close to selling out. Maybe there is hope after all....probably not. Though it will be interesting to see how the sales go in the upcoming weeks (especially since they aren't really any good games for the market).

Maybe around 6M for PS4 worldwide now (rough guess).

Bluray has the best hd quality. But nobody is going to buy the South Park bluray or Napoleon dynamite bluray .

    There's no point.

I have the Star Wars the phantom menace on DVD . That movie sucked if I upcoverted to 1080p or got the bluray.

Half the DVDs I have I can stream on Netflix . There's no point buying media unless you really love that movie .

I was referring to the guy who couldn't tell the difference in quality between the two.

But I honestly just rent the Blurays from Redbox, rip them to MKV, send them to my media server and stream through Plex.

I think some people here like looking at games rather than playing them.

To me, a true gamer plays the game.

Remember counter strike ? People played the living hell out of that old game.
Graphics suck, but it was fun.

People need to care about games not systems.

Like the people who play street fighter , they don't care what console you have, it's about competition and skill

Not stupid cut scenes that you keeping pressing x to get passed cause you know that Japanese anime dialogue was made for teenage Japanese girls

Lest we not forget the ugly graphics of the PS1 with no anti-aliasing. You could probably cut a mother****er with them giant polygons, brah.

Lest we not forget PS1 had some absolutely amazing games that I still go back and play. Graphics are not everything.
