Materialism. Got busy with his created toys and lost his way. One of these day, he will wake up and come back.
If there were a God, I believe he would make a sentient life in his Universe because there is no reality without the confirmation of an outside, independent observer. We have reached a point where we can confirm that the universe exits, so that's all He really needed from us.
A Christian would argue God is still very much active and has been for a very long time. The only reason you ask that question is because it isn't all compiled into a book for you that says THE HOLY BIBLE: YEARS 100-2014.
Why is there not another Jonah and the whale? Or another parting of the Red Sea? or another world wide flood and an ark? Why did these things stop? Did God retire? Is he done teaching us lessons or helping us? Are there not modern problems that are worthy of a miracle to the scale of a parting of the Red Sea? Couldn't the Holocaust have used a Moses? Couldn't a burning bush have helped a serial killer? or does talking to plants make you crazy? Another question: Why did these miracles and events happen in one region? Why did Jesus not preach in China? Was there an Abraham in India? Did God annihilate a city in South America like he did with Sodom and Gomorrah? Or are all of the stories about miracles and God and Jesus just made up? Which possibility is more rational?
I'm not arguing for the scientific rationality of the events in Genesis. To read them literally would be to ignore the massive layers of depth the Bible has and ignoring the context in which it is written. Understanding the supernatural events in Genesis as metaphor and poetry in order to understand our nature and the divine would be a much more appropriate reading. That said, the questions you ask I'm sure were asked in the 400+ years between the book of Malachi and the book of Matthew. And even before that, the last books of the OT are prophetical in nature, simply having one speak on behalf of God (which you could consider many like a Martin Luther, or a Martin Luther King Jr, or a Billy Graham depending on your views) As for the region in which the events take place, if you read Acts you'll get a good sense of the vastness that Paul reached in his miracles and messages. We are talking going West as far towards Rome and and the East as far as modern day Syria. And obviously, he reached a lot of different areas in between that. It didn't just happen in Israel or Egypt. Of course, that leaves a lot of areas for thousands of years that potentially didn't know of Jesus or of Yahweh. And well, you've got me there buddy. I've got no response. I wouldn't be able to answer you in that area. But that really doesn't bother me. I can live with the fact that God is so much bigger than I am and I couldn't possibly comprehend everything in His nature. If I could really reason everything about such a Being, it would show how terrifically small He is. My ability not to, shows the nature of God that Isaiah talks about. I know that answer probably doesn't do much for you, but keep on asking if you'd like! Love these questions.
*shrug* How active is evolution . . . right about now? How significantly different are we from Man 2000 yrs ago . . . 10000 yrs ago? Rocket River
Basically the same thing happened to him that happens to a lot of A-list Hollywood types after a long run of success - he decided what he really wanted to do was direct.

That's a big window you're referencing. Until the constraints of your question are presented in an unbiased range or method, it's hard to come to a conclusion on that or determining if current times and conditions constitute an actual change, and whether or not we are the cause of this change in activity or merely bystanders to the phenomenon.
Is god punishing those people or are those just natural disasters? Reward from god for the good behavior in Egypt the past couple of years or punishment?
Please direct me to more information on the activity in the last 1000 yrs or so Rocket River Much appreciated [No Snark]
