I haven't posted much in these draft threads since I don't have enough time to watch film and come to an educated opinion. But I've been in support of taking Clowney 1-1 since the Texans locked up that pick. Even if he is just Mario 2.0, sticking him next to Watt would be game-changing.

The Texans do need a QB, but neither Teddy nor Manziel is worth 1-1.

Give me the guy who gets us back in the playoffs. TB or Manziel.

At 6'6 274 lbs that is freaking incredible and scary next to JJ Watt...

He weighed in at 266, but you're right. He has a crazy explosion off the line.

Even middle of the pack QB is more important than best defensive player in football. JJ Watt was the best defensive player in football this year, but since Matt sucked it didn't matter.

So what you are saying is that you would trade JJ Watt for Joe Flacco?

Joe Flacco performed worse than Schaub and Keenum did, yet the Ravens nearly made the playoffs, why? Because their defense was better than ours. Wasting the #1 pick on a mediocre QB doesn't really help us, it sets the team back a LONG way.

I'm sure the QB desperation crowd would, but they aren't exactly rational.

No, but Flacco did win a SB. My point is importance of qb is just so much higher than any other position. If the sea hawks had matt flynn they would not be in the super bowl. They would have been another mediocre team.

No, they'd have been a borderline playoff team, if they went with Tavaris Jackson, they'd probably have still made a deep playoff run, maybe even won it all. They win with defense and running game, their QB is largely irrelevant.

4.47 unofficial 40 yd dash time allows him to cover or rush - I am still in the clowney 1.1 draft class :)

Blame it on his coach. He wasn't able to motivate him.

I think his official time will be more like 4.53 or so, but still a VERY impressive time.

It wasn't motivation, it was a combination of what he was asked to do on defense along with how teams were game planning against him which allowed other guys to get the sacks. He still lead his team in QB pressures though despite all of that. The "motivation" trope is so tired.

If a player needs a coach to motivate him, then I'll pass.

Watt and Cushing could be playing under Jack Pardee and they would be just as motivated as they are right now.

With that kind of speed, I think I'm now on the Clowney bandwagon.
