Bridgewater is NOT throwing at the combine... http://nfl.si.com/2014/02/22/teddy-bridgewater-will-not-throw-nfl-combine/
but Clowney's not a QB. It's different when you are looking at a guy to become the team's leader on the field. Warren Moon had to go through this same criticism from people who just refused to acknowledge his ability on the field--hell he went undrafted! It's nowhere near Warren Moon's level of discrimination today, but it's still out there. People just look at a black QB in this day and age and type them into the mold of Michael Vick/Randall Cunningham/Cam Newton. Measureables are all that matter. How big of a cannon arm does he have, how fast can he run the 40, how sturdy is his frame. We're coming around with guys like RG3 and Russell Wilson (who had the same problem of showing up on tape but not in the Combine), but it's still out there.
Another aspect of the pre-draft media blitz is their need, their absolute NECESSITY, to bring down the #1 rated QB in every draft. Luck and Manning, like you said, were no brainers in the middle of the college FB season and somehow were turned into straw men upon whom nonsensical criticisms could be slinged. There were articles out in March/April of the 2012 draft talking about how Indy was considering picking RG3 over Luck. It's almost like open season on the QB favorite heading into the draft. Invariably some ho-hum QB (think Blaine Gabbert, Ryan Tannehill, Mark Sanchez) gets sucked into this hype machine through no fault of their own, for the simple purpose of bringing the #1 guy down. But what are we saying. This is America. We love battles. We love underdogs! Before the combine the story on Bridgewater was that he just didn't cut it physically. Now that he has surpassed the cutoffs people arbitrarily set for him in height, weight, and hand length, we have reverted to our criticism of "he didn't play anybody". Lately I've heard the groupthink over at the NFL scouting arena come up with this gem: "he may not be the best, he's just the most NFL ready." As if his ceiling were maxed out because, hell, the brain just can't get much better sometimes. Whatever. Like Bridgewater says, this is the time to ignore the hype. Just go home, do your job, enjoy the Rockets season and some nice college BBall on right now, and dedicate your thoughts elsewhere from the NFL until May.
Great posts I am bamboozled and befuddled by the bolded. Every time in previous drafts, qbs referred to as the consensus "most NFL ready" qb have been considered the best qb in the draft
Well they did say he was a cerebral QB. Not sure why any QB would want to throw to WR's they have never played with before on the day they are trying to impress NFL scouts.
lol so if somebody thinks Teddy is good, but not 1-1 worthy, they're racist. come on, man. that's some pathetic logic the guy has legit unknowns. most mocks have other guys going 1-1
Whether he wants to be believe it or not, he has a problem with a black man being the captain of the ship. He has no problem in drafting Clowney bc black guys are supposed to rush the passer but a black guy at the helm? That irks him.
hilariously false, considering what a huge Warren Moon fan I was back in the day (and before it came out that he beat his wife)
boom. as I predicted...likely proof that he bulked to artificially get his weight up, and now he's slow red flag possible character issue due to his backing out after he said he'd run?
stay on topic and quit trying to distract QB needs another level of character -- the offense has to believe in them and the QB needs to lead
Don't be a hypocrite. I would have liked to see Teddy B run and that's disappointing but to bring that up as a character issue is silly. Stop it.
why is it silly? he pulled out at the last minute (Arian, please learn from this! lol) he said he would run, and then he cowardly pulled out at the last minute against his word. we're supposed to just ignore that?
