In the article a article Olajuwon Rejuvenated, The Dream says would not mind ending his career with the Lakers or Heat.

This would be a travesty. Hakeem has been and should continue to be a life long Rocket. I also happen to agree with him that he has earned more minutes and should be more involved in the offense. After all he has the highest feild goal avg. on the team (except cato). We saw how clutch he was in against the Sonics! He does appear to be playing better with every game.

In the article he asks the question...what other center besides Shaq is better than Hakeem? I for one do not see one!

As far as salery cap is concerned, we can go after a big name free agent and then re-sign Hakeem to a big contract after signing a free agent.

More Hakeem with more offensive touches can only help to add stability to the team and improve our chances of a play-off birth.

    Keep Hakeem!

I love what Dream has done for the City of Houston and the Rocket organazation, but to make the comments he did regarding other teams is inappropriate if not disrespectful to his fellow Rockets.

Its hard to say what context the remarks were made in. But Hakeem was just trying to answer the questions honestly that were asked him from a reporter. I don't think he said anything negitive about the players just the lack of respect the current system gives to the importance of the post and a strong front court game.

Hakeem clearly thinks that he has enough to offer the Rockets or any team a legitimate low post game. I happen to agree with him and hope Rudy does to.

if we trade dream to the heat:
    here's what we can get,

    houston trades:
    Hakeem Olajuwon $16,700,000 to miami
    TOTAL: $16,700,000

miami trades: Anthony Mason $5,553,900 miami trades: Dan Majerle $4,050,000
miami trades: Cedric Ceballos $3,937,500 miami trades: A.C. Green $2,250,000
    miami trades: Ricky Davis $939,360
    miami trades: Don MacLean $798,500

i seriously doubt miami goes for this. theyd be giving up too much for hakeem.
(it would have to be done after like jan 25th or something tho)

if we trade with the fakers:
    Hakeem Olajuwon $16,700,000 to lakers

    lakers trades: Horace Grant $6,500,000
lakers trades: Robert Horry $4,800,000 lakers trades: Rick Fox $3,412,125
    lakers trades: Greg Foster $1,764,247
    lakers trades: Mark Madsen $707,040

that lakers trade sounds a little better. i dunno if they'd part with horry AND fox. and i have a feeling if this trade went through, hogrant would probably retire. leaving us with fox, horry, foster and madsen. maybe we could move foster and someone out for draft picks immediately afterwards? madsen is supposedly a good prospect and we'd need his toughness to make up for girlie man motaylor. of course, the lakers also want to get rid of derek fisher. but i wouldnt take him, i think the francis/moochie combo is PERFECT chemistry and talent wise.

I don't see why either the Lakers or the Heat would want to do those trades. I have a hard time imagining any team wanting to give up $16.7 million in trades and only get Hakeem in return. I don't mean that as a knock against Hakeem, it just doesn't sound very realistic.

As for the topic, Hakeem should have stopped at "I want to keep my options open"...

If Hakeem were to end up with the Lakers or Heat, it would probably be as a free agent not via a trade.

I'm curious to know what you all would think of seeing Hakeem in Laker purple. Although I hate the Lakers, especially Kobe, I think I would feel a little happy for Hakeem. It would be tremendous for Hakeem to back up, or play alongside Shaquille, who has so vocally expressed admiration for him time and time again. Perhaps it shouldn't, and I feel a little dirty because of it, but it gives me a warm feeling inside.

    Haha--that is funny
I wonder if hes been getting killed int he market like the rest of us [IMG]

seriously though, im no cba expert, but isnt it more feasible for any trade involving Hakeem to be some sort of 3 way deal.

Also, while both teams are forced to give up to many players, Hakeem would certainly help them both improve. I would prefer to see him in the east though. Better for us, much better for him.

I don't know about trader, but traiter might fit better ...

I do agree, I've weathered Hakeem and all his problems. I've always wanted him to stay and retire in Houston as a Rocket. I would be very disappointed in him if he did go to another team. Just like I would be very disappointed in the Rockets if they traded Hakeem.

Look, I'm sorry, but if Hakeem really wants to keep playing after this year, then trade him. Get something for him. I love the guy. But he wants an out. He needs to go to a veteran team. I say move him and the Pillsbury Mo Boy to the Knicks. Take back Camby and Houston. OR, since Houston might not fit this team, send Camby and Houston to Chicago in exchange for Elton Brand and Brad Miller. (I'd like Camby, but Houston would have incentive to stay in Chicago if Camby were around.) December 15 is coming up, some of these guys can be traded. I know this is cheap dreamcasting, but hell, Knicks need a center. Too many Native Americans on that team, no Chief.
Chicago might go for this. Camby/Fizer/Mercer/Houston/Point Guard by Committee with a nice draft pick on the way. A return to respectability, which they need. No free agents are on the way next year; and they absolutely SUCK.
And us? Elton Brand, baby. Elton Brand.
    Sorry, got carried away.
But from what I've seen posted here and written elsewhere, Dream understands his value. They would kill to get him in the East. And if we make the trade, that's the direction he should go.

I view Dream going to another team like losing an old girlfriend. There are pleasant memories, but if she wants to move on - then there's nothing I can do (and I surely won't lose sleep over it).

Seriously, Dreams salary would make it almost impossible to deal him without a 3rd (or 4th) team involved.

To me losing Hakeem is like when your gold fish dies. You can easily get a new one. And only little kids care if they die.

Rereading my stale post, I'd like to make a tribute to *:

It's interesting that Dream's comments have picked up right around the 12/15 date. Are those shots across the bow?

If you were Orlando, New York, Charlotte or Toronto, would you be concerned about one of your opponents getting Dream (I doubt Charlotte would, [IMG]).

Orlando or New York would be set w/ Dream. I like basketball. I like Ashley Judd. I like money. I like snow.

With the way Dreams playing right now it's hard to part with him no matter what his inclinations are. With him playing so well are chances to break into the big-dance are becoming less bleak and more clear and imaginable. Either way his play level of late has put the leverage back in our hands, and teams - contending teams especially - salivate with lust for the Dream.

Offers to the front office are becoming more enticing and at the same time easier to resist.

Damn, it'd be hard to pass up on a package involving Camby, though.
