I know there is a lot of emotion out there this week with all the trade rumors swirling around. I have had a lot of mixed feelings. There are a lot of good arguments both ways. But I am feeling like I hope the Rockets don't make any big moves - that Daryl and Les decide to stay with the present group, and give them a chance to show what they can do together. As Jason Friedman's article reminded me, these guys like each other. They have shown they can be absolutely devastating together, and I would say they have exceeded expectations for this point in the season. I want to see more. http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/la-story-0 "With good vibes aplenty and a mutual mindset geared toward keeping them coming, the Houston Rockets returned to work this week in Los Angeles. The players have been in high spirits since touching down in SoCal; the scene on team busses to and from practice in recent days has been akin to that of brothers being reunited after having spent time apart. The friendly, playful trash talk has been at an all-time high; the collective mood: downright rambunctious."
Rockets are Like. ... "brothers being reunited after having spent time apart". Sorry guys, that is the title I meant to use for this thread. Hope people won't mind having a relatively light weight thread like this. There is such a lot of heavy trade news. I just thought it might be nice to have a thread appreciating how close this team is, and how much fun it has been to watch them grow and get better together.
I believe their all good friends aswell who always have fun, the amount of team dinners, flights, hotel rooms they share (cue parsons joke) would have to make them all love spending time together, but atleast the older guys would realise its a business
I like the title. A little puzzle within the title brings some added mystery. Rockets Like...? What do the Rockets like? They like winning? They like being in LA? They Like the 7 game winning streak? Rockets like the trade deadline to be over? Rockets like each other? So many options but I had a sense it was going to be about Rockets liking each other and was happy to find out it was.
Good thread OP. All this trade talk has us talking irrationally about our players. The truth is that they are the hottest team in the NBA precisely because they are finally gelling together. For all the animosity in the fanbase, these assets are looking more and more like brothers.
Part of me does kinda hope that we just make a minor trade like non-rotation players/picks for a bench wing. A deeper bench could be enough to contend for the title. Not saying would, but could.
I think the culture is more due to the team than players. Was Delfino ever considered a locker room guy? Not really. He actually had a pretty surly reputation. But on the Rockets, the guy looked like a giddy little kid. There are two things that foster these feelings. One is winning, the other is personal stats(aka gonna get PAID!). The Rockets play a system where players get stats(except Lin of course cause the coaches hate him and all that) and we win. It's fun for everyone. Except those that won't get PAID! on their next contract, ala Asik and to lesser extent DMo if they keep playing little minutes. If the Rockets trade for Rondo, who by all account is a surly guy who's hard to deal with. he's going to gel with the team fine. Remember when Dwight was suppose to be a chemistry killer who throws his team under the bus and high maintenance? Doesn't matter now. He's winning and gettin paid.
I love this team but i would love more a championship. IF everyone is satisfied with this team and a run in the playoffs, i don't have a problem to keep it as it is.But i am sure that after the playoffs everyone will try to find what went wrong and didn't take the championship ... we are just not so good to contend.
I too don't want a major trade. Just trade Asik for a backup 3&D wing and a solid backup center. I wouldn't want to trade Asik either if he hadn't been so disgruntled.
I like the vibe of this article, but our "brotherhood" doesn't mean this team doesn't have holes. We need better 3 point shooting. We need better perimeter defense. If Morey can improve those, I will be far more comfortable heading into the playoffs.
R-O-C-K-E-T-S are the letters that spell, rockets are like threes and layups, half team half amazing, like a dime hooker to a virgin posting on a forum for the first time, rockets are like..
Idk I don't think there win streak is all that impressive. I mean sure it's great and showing there consistent but look at the teams they played most pretty scrub like. On the bright side we have defeated teams like blazers and spurs but to me even those teams aren't on elite levels like thunder, clippers, pacers and heat. Spurs could flip it in playoffs but for the rest eh
The Rockets are as cool as James Harden, as goofy as Dwight Howard, as good looking as Chandler Parsons, as nerdy as Jeremy Lin, as all-heart as Patrick Beverley, as young and talented as Terrence Jones, as wanting-to-prove-themselves-and-sometimes-awkward as DMo, as unproven and full of potential as Robert Covington, as frustrating (sometimes) as Omer Asik.
Rockets are like.... .... family, we may complain and nag about individuals, but our intentions are really for their good and hope that they grow and become stars in their own right.... .... even when we had to let some of them go, we still wish them all the best in their future endeavors (and yeah that include some I'd rather not name, but I think I still hope they are better where they be).... Reach for the stars Rockets, reach for the stars, Just believe and stretch for it, stretch as long and stretch as far, Worry not about failing Rockets, we'll catch you where you are, For winning the championship can heal up battle scars....
