There are already techniques used today to read the reflected light off distant objects to see the target object much older than they appear through direct observation. This tech will only improve and future astronomers will no doubt at least see the earth as it appeared millions and billions of years in the past.
Yeah it still wouldn't be real time. That's why OP is having to wormhole out to see back to the future.
Not really related to OP, but my thoughts on time travel: It won't ever happen, because if it did then we'd have already encountered visitors from the future. But I don't think that we're incapable of learning it, so that means we must have died off before the technology was mastered.
If I bang a prostitute in the dark.. no one would be able to see it later because it didn't emit any light right? what if I wore a glow in dark rubber? mind blown
That doesn't work. You have to wear aluminum foil if you want to ensure no one from the future can see into your past.
This isn't the same thing, OP, but if someone traveled at near light speed to another star system and then returned to Earth, that person would be far younger than the family and friends he or she left at home. If you want a fun example, try reading Double Star, by Robert Heinlein, or the Ender's Game sequels. They explain it better than I could. It's all relative, you know.
Unless the prostitute has been dead for awhile, you both would still emit infrared. And from that, it'd be more like you're pleasuring yourself.
Never too advanced to learn from the past and yes I believe we will reach this position one day Rocket River
When you look at stars glowing in the sky on a clear night, just remember, those are actually cameras from the future with their flash turned on. There's a reason why you can't see them during daytime. The Sun is the exception that proves the rule.
I don't think anything solid like a camera can reach the speed of light, let alone pass the speed of light. So unless you can create a subatomic particle like an electron to take and transmit photography, I don't know how you'll accomplish recording the past.
like anyone can even know that. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/L3LHAlcrTRA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I'd like to think an alien civilization, millions of years ahead of us in science & technology, are watching us right now and recording human history as it unfolds. Then they'd come to earth, make first contact, and have us fix all our history books. I suddenly remember that scene in Star Trek when humans first meet Vulcans.
