Didn't people say the same thing about Dwight? Switch knee and back. Morey stated that he makes deals based on future flexibility with an increased value in competing for a championship in the next three years. All trades are risks, but Rondo is also the player who is Mr. Triple Double in the playoffs, clutch like no other, an elite defensive player, and gave the Heat nightmares. Based on how much Pierce and Garnett dropped off in Brooklyn, it is clear that Rondo extended the careers of the future Hall of Famers, rather than "riding the coattails" of them, which many people have said. In terms of fit, once upon a time, Rondo was averaging 14 assists for the first 30ish games of the season he played with Shaq. This is no coincidence: once Shaq got hurt, his assists dropped down to a "pedestrian" 10+ per game. This is the difference between playing with Shaq and Perkins. Shaq was 39. Now imagine this effect with Howard. As sad as it is, there is a decent chance we will lose Parsons. Yes, there are bird rights; yes, there can be RFA, but teams will overpay and Morey will not.
the reason why having a guy like Rondo is key is because of two things: 1) the guy has won a ring and almost won another ring with other major HOF players on that team - he has time and time again shown up for big games -- raising his career averages in scoring, assists, rebounds in the playoffs compared to the regular season 2)for a team that doesnt run plays at all - having Rondo will force them to run plays - both Howard and Harden will respect that he will be running the plays and he is vocal enough to put guys in their place when it needs to happen. I mean how many times has Harden played ISO ball when he hasnt had to and kept the ball way too long. Rondo would stop that -- Harden having a great game -- he is going to get the ball -- Howard dominating inside -- every trip down Howard would get the ball in the right place and time. Rondo is the perfect set up guy if he is available
Wow this thread is still bumping. Guys rondo to the rockets this year is in no way happening. I'm sure morey looked into it as every gm in the league would, but it's not gonna happen nor will it come close to. Give it up
So you need to trade Parsons for Rondo in order to force your coach to draw some plays?? I see more appropiated -and easier- a head coach change for that purpose.
You don't need him to make that happen. You need him to become the excellent floor general that he has been with his other stars. He makes plays and has been much in the clutch during the Celtics last set of golden years.
That's a cleverly disguised fire Morey argument, but YoYo knows his stuff. Right now the primary ball handler is James Harden. Rondo is a better ball handler than Harden. So Harden is relieved from PG duty, a duty which allowed him to determine if a play would be run or not. Now Rondo does all that stuff and you can leave McHale out of it because he let the best ball-handler handle the ball, which happens to be a smart coaching move. He also let's those guys be themselves, which I've noticed a lot of other tv announcers, recognize and compliment him on.
