Who are the 4s out there that would abuse us but that Dwight cannot guard? And what are the chances we play them in the playoffs? You're not allowed to say Duncan because that'll make Howard all giddy.
So do we give up Asik & Lin? Just Asik and some youngbloods (i.e. Jones or Motie. Bev?) I just don't want to give up Parsons and I don't want to give up Lin or Asik unless we get someone back who can fulfill their role (6th man scorer; defensive back-up big man)
Wouldn't happen. Harden has proven very, very good at defending 4's. This lineup is a closing lineup which is what we should be looking at for playoff teams. The closers are much more important than the starters on championship teams.
THANK you. Saved me the time and effort in trying to articulate this. Maybe it's getting worse in this ever-more-digital age, but people seem to process exactly what's put in front of them and even regurgitate it. Hell, was it megastahr who posted on doc rocket's twitter, "Oh no! Parsons is gone!"? Or something to that effect? Think, people. Maybe something like: Morey: Look, it's time. I kept Asik "rehabilitating".... Ainge: (laughs) "Rehabilitating." Yeah, I like that. So, how's my boy? Morey: Omer? We've kept him warm for you. Ainge: No. Chandler. How's Chandler? Morey: You think you're gonna get Chandler, too? Kinda steep asking price for Rondo. No one's gonna pay it. Chandler alone is worth Rondo. Ainge: I got Sacramento offering me McLemore, Isiah, and two firsts. Morey: That's because no one ways to play there and they know it. Rajon won't stay there so that's dead in the water. Right? Ainge: If I trade Rajon, I need something more than Asik and late first rounders. That won't cut it. Morey: Look, I'll discuss anyone not named Harden or Howard. Ainge: All right, I'll hold you to that. Morey: We'll work this out. Just don't let me get "Cubaned" here. If Mark calls... Ainge: That peacock scumbag. I'll butter him up like always but he doesn't have anything I want. Look, we'll talk in a couple days. Morey: Good thing, talk at'cha. (hangs up) Morey's Flunky: You wouldn't really trade Chandler, would you? Morey: I doubt I'll have to. But let Danny think he's in the driver's seat. Gotta keep him talking.
I don't think Parsons is getting dealt, but I would wholeheartedly disagree that we overvalue him. He is outside of the top tier of small forwards, but he is would be very hard to replace if traded. I am 100% for acquiring Rondo, but the team does not improve if we lost Parsons in a trade for Rondo imo.
Just not going to take a chance on a guy who's coming off ACL surgery especially since the asking price is so high
There won't be anything left of your star shooting guard by the end of season if he's having to check PFs every night. Geeeeez. Get real
a Rondo Beverley backcourt would be the best defensive backcourt in the NBA. They would force offenses to scramble with all their overplay. Combine that with Parsons and Harden fronting the 4 and you've got the recipe for plenty of wild lobs thrown at the rim out of desperation where Dwight is waiting to do his work. That 5 guys would create so much defensive chaos and tons of turnovers, forced shots, and runouts.
There are 4's that create mismatches for us right now when we have excellent depth at the position, you run Parsons out there pretending to be a PF and EVERY PF in the league creates a mismatch problem for us. 3 guards and Parsons at PF would be a disaster.
I think Rondo is more like a cluster 9 in this model (Rather then a cluster 7), or somewhere between those categories. He's a pass-first PG and is not really a high scorer (Career average at 11, highest season evarage at 13.7)
I just saw this on RealGM forums.. I didn't realize he has missed THIS much playing time. I don't know how accurate it is and don't really want to go look it up but wow..
If he was still the defender he was as a rookie, I'd agree that he's untouchable. The problem is that we have two solid defensive starters, one that is young but gifted and two that have developed a nasty habit of thinking they are bullfighters. I believe Harden will step up and play well enough in the playoffs, but we need Chandler to give his man fits. Rondo can give any player fits. On both ends. With bad knees. Because he plays like a basketball genius. One step ahead. Knows all the angles. The Spurs were double-teaming Rondo. This year. And he was obviously gimpy. He looked like Magic Johnson hobbling around out there making plays bad knees and all.
Clusters 7 and 9 aren't that far a part. They seem very similar to me except Cluster 7 is a lot higher usage. Rondo's assists and steals match Cluster 7 and those seem to be defining qualities for Rondo. Granted, his scoring is closer to Cluster 9.
