Last night after work I played with my dogs and 10 year old son in the back yard. While playing I went through some bushes retrieving balls and frisbees. Later I noticed what appeared to be some "debris" on my sleeve. The debris was moving. I knocked it off and inspected it. About the size of a pencil eraser. Somewhat turtle shaped, but very irregular surface. I thought it looked like a ball of moss and small twigs. One child said it looked like mold, another a small dirt clod. It was kind of greenish gray in color. On the bottom it had what appeared to be six short legs (kind of a translucent red) and a small pair of pincers in front. No wings. The outer shell, which I imagine was some kind of camoflague, was kind of spongy to the touch. I looked in the Texas Critters book, but no luck. Any ideas?
You touched it?? It was an Amazon Turtle Bug... highly poisonous, the effects take about 2 days to immobilize and reduce your heart rate to near death levels... you will soon be a zombie!! not really
I kept it in a jar. This morning its dead. PETA is knocking at my door right now! I was only on my second Shiner ...
No. It's *body* wasn't smooth at all. Like a little piece of moss with small twigs in it. Or maybe like something you get out of your bellybutton during Spring cleaning.
Too flat. It was almost as big as a pencil eraser, kind of shaped like a turtle or VW beetle. Colors are close, but the mystery bug was more of a washed out green. Also, you could not see the legs or the pincers, which were very short, unless you turned it on its back.
