I want to keep Lin and Asik. I don't see how any trade with the Knicks would make us better.

Lin + Asik + 1st round pick for Melo. Git'er done Morey.

    I would also do

    Lin+Asik for Chandler+Shumpert+Tim Hardaway

Is Pau Gasol a target? I'd be happy if we could net him and Farmar with Lin, Asik, Brewer (filler) plus a 2nd rd pick

And Melo was a strong influence behind this.

Pau Gasol and D12 had enough time together in LA no need to bring any of that to Houston

Money is nothing to the Knicks. They make unfathomably HUGE profits under the CBA.

It's as if the Yankees were restricted to spending 80 million a year, instead of $220 million they would in a free market.

They want Lin, they want to go to the playoffs (which would probably more than recoup the balloon payment to both Asik and Lin). It's such an obvious win for them to take back Lin (if Dolan, Carmelo can let bygones be bygones).

That is true, but if Dmo can handle playing until Pau gets healthy then Pau off the bench could be good for us especially come playoff time. His contract is also going to be off the books after this season while Lin and Asik will be getting paid quite a bit.

The cap was already maxed out with Melo, Stat and Chandler. There was no capflexibility at all. There wouldn't have been much change with Lin's contract in the mix. But like you said it was the luxury tax. That money would've came out of Dolan's pocket. It would've not hurt the Knicks at all. And that luxury tax is pocket change to Dolan. Not signing that offer sheet was not a basketball decision at all.

I don't think an important deal will happen .It's no secret to anyone in this forum that Morey want to take melo or love when they will be free and to do so , he has to think about salaries . ( Personally , I don't expect these two coming to rockets ) That was the reason he didn't take the asik to boston deal . Maybe there will be a minor deal .

Lin is a mediocre Shooting Guards who can have above average shooting games every once in a while...

I have seen many post where people will point out how unhappy a player is thus the reason they are doing so bad on such and such team...some do in part to trade rumours

when we have Lin who has kept his mouth shut and done what the team has asked off him...to play mainly off ball.. SG

knowing he was a 3 year rental, if he didnt know it when he signed the contract then he should have known it as soon as Harden inked his deal

I just hope the Rox trade Lin (and what ever package players) to a team where he can play as a true PG and the Rox get some good pieces back for a playoff run, most important PG that is allowed to run the team, or a impact player like Melo...

Yes, I believe you are correct. I realize Asik's potential value to us, but he doesn't want to accept his role than Morey must try his best to get a decent deal for him. We should retain Lin.

Melo made that decision. Even if it was by his silence. But judging Melo's personality he is not the silent type. He voiced his opinion and if it was different than Dolan's you can be sure all he had to do was demand it and Dolan would have succumb. But Melo clearly stated his opinion when he said it was ridiculous.

He clearly thought Lin was not worth near that amount and Dolan listened. Salaries are just numbers manufactured by the NBA. Kobe is not worth 30 mil this year are 22 mil the next 2. But if he fills the seats and sells jersey's maybe he is. Lin earns more than his salary. Dolan is a business man he knows this. he also understands in this league you cater to your stars and the more they are stars the more you cater to them.

Melo made the decision to dump D'Antoni and made the decision to not resign Lin. The Knicks gave melo everything he wanted and now they suck and he is threatening to walk. The Knicks are having buyers remorse and only can dream about the days the franchise was so revered with Linsanity. Linsanity 2 is definitely a real thought for them. Can't see why it would be a real thought for Melo. Lin's contract becomes even more ridiculous next year.
