If they move Lin and Asik and get back Chandler, Shump and Hardaway I'll be thrilled. No, you aren't getting a guy like Kevin Love out of the deal, but those are some really good depth pieces. Not to mention valuable trade pieces if you decide to spin them this offseason.

Yeah I agree, people were trying to argue that point when it was found out that Chris Paul threatened to come to Houston. Not a good argument at all.

Would Melo want Lin? He was upset that Lin would distribute the ball. He said "No one distributes the ball to me." JR also said that some players were upset with Lin's salary. Big social mistake for the Knicks to take Lin back.

One thing to remember is there is a synergy between the Nuggets and Knicks. Nuggets appear to be headed to the lottery as do the Knicks. Nuggets own both their pick and the Knicks. So if Knicks miss the playoffs that gives the Nuggets 2 piles of ping pong balls.

I think mos of us know that if we ship both Lin and Asik to the Knicks that they are going to make a run over the next couple months. So Denver may be willing to negotiate a trade (would have to be a complicated multi-team deal) with the Rox just so we don't hand the Knicks both Lin/Asik and a possible playoff berth.

Melo is very tempermental. Does not like to share the spotlight.

Exactly my feeling. Although many on this BBS don't like him for whatever reason, the team and organization do like him.

Now that TJones is doing really well, I would say Asik for a defensive wing who can shoot is where the Rockets should go.

Doesn't Dolan make the decisions? The low down in NY on why Lin was not asked back was that Dolan was insulted that Lin backed out of the Knick's offer after Houston offered more.

Houston needs a Backup Center. Both Asik and Garcia need to be replaced, you wont get that done with just Asik. If we add Lin in there we still have Brooks and we could have a defensive wing who can score, we really don't have many options outside Lin and Asik to trade everyone else is either untouchable or just a throw in.

Shump and Hardaway, we can use. But, what are u going to do with Chandler? he is just another defensive center. Make him bench player? how much is his salary again? your guys are insane.

I don't believe that Lin or his agent could have reconstructed the Rockets' offer. DM conceived it and he did the same to get Asik from Chicago.

The Rockets need defensive centers to anchor the defense, our bench without Dwight has no defense. Chandler is expensive for a backup but what does it matter if we have all the players we want and he comes of the books in 2015?

Yeah Lin will be behind the fatty Felton, break out to lead the Knicks to another 7-game winning streak like in Feb. 2012 and back to playoffs and a hero again in NY.

I doubt the low-IQ Dolan would let this happen though.

Chandler has a huge salary, but that's more than balanced out by the discounts on rookie contracts of Hardaway and Shumpert.

Moreover, Chandler has been injured and is aging. And that's why the Knicks are willing to dump him. However, he's still at a level where he would still be a championship backup 5 for this year and the next (his contract runs to 2015). And he's a winner's ethic, and has a Ring from 2011.

It works for NY because Asik is young (in comparison to Chandler) and someone they can re-sign going forward. Lin is faaaaaar more valuable to NY than Hardaway or Shumpert, obviously (whatever Hardaway's potential may be). And Lin would really bust out Linsanity 2 and put up at least 15/8 without a problem, methinks. Playoffs for the Knicks for sure, IMO.

Lin is very watchable running an offense, TOs and all. He's just horrible and painful to watch deferring to Harden, making all sorts of nervous, deferential, self-conscious, shrinking violet mistakes, and if he hasn't gotten over that yet, he probably never will. Not worth half as much to the Rockets as to the Knicks.

You can't be reasonable with NYK, their management is the worst of all NBA teams.
Actually, shump is what Rocket need now, a wing defender, can upgrade pg, start with Harden. But they don't need asik, likely will be Lin. with Lin's potential and his service we need now, NO to this trade.

You guys. The low down was that if the Knicks had matched Lin, he would be on their cap at $15 million next year. That's a difference of $7 million on the cap and $11 million in actual salary paid over what they signed Raymond Felton for. But the kicker is Lin's contract on the cap at $15 million would have cost Knicks somewhere between $40-55 million in extra luxury tax next season over what they are paying Felton. $40 million is probably below the line. The actual number would have likely come in around $50 million depending on where the cap goes next year PLUS the actual $11 million difference in Lin's and Felton's salaries for a final cost to the Knicks of around $60 million to match Lin's contract.

So, it was a money decision not to match Lin.

Now, if the Knicks could move out Chandler and Shumpert for Lin and Asik, it doesn't cost them all those extra tax dollars because Asik and Lin are on the books at $8.37 million. It would only cost them basically an extra $13 million, the actual salary difference between those players for next season.
